EOC UPDATE: Travel Restrictions To St. Maarten ClarifiedNational Address on COVID-19

Prime Minister Silveria JacobsThe travel restrictions announced in Prime Minister Silveria Jacobs’s second National Address on March 14th, 2020 are hereby further clarified.
On March 17th, only incoming visitors from the USA, Canada, Europe, UK and Ireland are restricted to enter the country of St. Maarten. This does not apply to St. Maarten/St. Martin residents, as well as residents and nationals of the surrounding islands whom utilize Princess Juliana International Airport (PJIA) as a transit point. Travelers from around the Caribbean region are not restricted unless they have travelled to the listed areas in the past 21 days. The current travel restrictions apply for two weeks starting on Tuesday, March 17th. Commercial and private/chartered airlines will be allowed to land and take-off after the March 16th deadline date to facilitate the following:
- Visitors who are currently on the island, or neighboring islands, who are scheduled to travel out via PJIA in the coming weeks to return to their home country.
- Returning residents of St. Maarten/St. Martin and the surrounding islands, who usually transit through PJIA, invited specialists and other technical assistants, to enter the country with valid travel documents.

Prime Minister Silveria JacobsPeople of St. Maarten, I hereby address you, as Prime Minister and Chair of the EOC (Emergency Operations Center), in an update for today Saturday March 14, 2020, as part of the process to keep the community of Sint Maarten informed about the latest developments and the Governments COVID-19 preparedness, prevention, mitigation and response measures.
The World Health Organization declared on Wednesday March 11 that the coronaviris COVID-19 has become a global pandemic. Based on this delcaration, the Government of Sint Maarten has stepped up its preparations and today March 14, after deliberation with the Council of Ministers and the EOC a number of decisions have been taken.
These preventive measures are to limit the exposure of the Sint Maarten people to COVID-19 due to an increase in COVID-19 cases in Europe and the United States of America.
Effective Tuesday, March 17, 2020,
all international flights and cruises originating from The United States of America, Europe and the United Kingdom to Sint Maarten are cancelled for a period of two weeks.These travel restrictions do not apply for regional air and sea travel at this time. Travel within the Dutch Caribbean – Saba, St. Eustatius, Bonaire, Aruba, and Curacao remains in place until further notice. This travel restriction also applies to other seafaring vessels.

March 12, 2020The United States of America decided that from March 13, 2020 foreigners who have been staying in the last 14-days in one of the 26 European countries belonging to the Schengen Area will no longer be allowed to enter the United States.
Some checks will also apply to American citizens returning from the Schengen Area.The Collectivity of Saint-Barthelemy points out that the island of Saint-Barthelemy is not part
of the Schengen Area. Nor is it part of the territory of the European Union. This legal situation is acknowledged by the specific
constitutional statute if the island of Saint-Barthelemy.

No Corona Virus Epidemic on St Barts as of March 09, 2020
Reassuring news coming from the ARS (French Governmental Health Organization)
concerning the island of St Barthelemy (St Barts).There are no clusters, and still only one confirmed case of Coronavirus on the
island – the same individual who was identified 10 days ago.
He is nearing the end of his quarantine phase and will be considered healthy again in a matter of days by
the ARS. It’s worthwhile reporting that his wife and children have not been contaminated.This proves the virus isn’t spreading as dynamically as one previously thought as
long as all basic preventive measures are being strictly applied by everyone.St Barts has been pro-actively putting in place all the recommendations and
procedures issued by the ARS.If required, the ARS has a contigency plan ready to be executed on a moment’s
notice in collaboration with the hospitals and Guadeloupe and Martinique.We are continuing to update the media on a regular basis.

In Saint-Barthélémy the results of the tests carried out on the (two suspected) contacts returned negative.
The situation remains unchanged with the existing cases: two confirmed cases in St Martin. One confirmed case in St Barthelmy.

RESPONSE TO CONFIRMED CASES OF COVID-19 ON FRENCH SAINT MARTIN

The Prime Minister Hon. Silveria Jacobs on Sunday morning activated the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in connection with two confirmed cases of the coronavirus COVID-19 on French Saint Martin. These persons are currently in isolation at the Hospital on the French side and will remain there for 14-days according to the Prefecture.

Saint-Barthélémy – Coronavirus Update

3 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed as positive in the northern islands by the Pasteur laboratory in Guadeloupe, which is now able to carry out the analyzes. He is a resident of Saint Barthélemy and his parents who came to visit.

Dominican Republic coronavirus (COVID-19)

The Viva Resorts chain reported that the Italian identified with coronavirus (COVID-19) was at Viva Dominicus Beach and arrived without symptoms. The case was handled following established protocols and under the direction of the Ministry of Public Health. No other cases have been detected in the establishment, or in the rest of the country.

PAHO prepares 8 Caribbean countries for laboratory diagnosis of new coronavirus

Virology experts from the Pan American Health Organization have travelled to the Caribbean region to ensure that laboratory specialists are trained and equipped to identify and respond to potential imported cases of the new coronavirus (COVID-19).
