what are you eating??

Lunch today was Steamers, Lobster Roll, and Grilled Hotdog. And of course the requisite Rum Punch. We went for seconds on the Steamers.

We also weren't the only ones who though that it was a good day to get out and enjoy the Indian Summer weather. #41 dropped by for lunch too.

Comfort food is in order! We are having the Cornish hens with cornbread stuffing that was recently posted here. They look delicious and the recipe is user friendly. Apple pie for dessert. A la mode.

sounds excellent!

we lucked out today...a Cape fisherman friend of mine came up to see the foliage and dropped off some clams and some haddock

so

clam chowder and haddock fish cakes on this cool rainy evening

Big fans of the fish cake! Enjoy. Bowen's Wharf in Newport had their annual Seafood Festival today. Local restaurants represented, and, I think, local fishing folks. Walked through but didn't have time to stop.

speaking of which..Wellfleet had their Oysterfest today...I heard it was insane...live music.....thousands of oysters consumed...lots of beer...my kind of event

Sounds wonderful. I hope it wasn't as windy in Wellfleet as Newport. Plates of seafood were blowing out of people's hands, overturned chowders... Launches stopped running by 2. Waves in the harbor. One poor boat tried to pick up a mooring for 45 minutes, gave up and anchored in the channel.

This evening I dished up what has to be, hands down, the worst steak ever served in New England. Our grill met her match in Irene and I haven't replaced yet. I used our grill pan, as I have many times with great success. Not tonight. Truly dreadful. It tasted...steamed. I bought it at the usual place we buy for regular-not special. We consoled ourselves with pie a la mode. But that steak hurt my feelings. Why did it cook that way, I wonder.

Rosemary----I have to laugh at this, but soooo sorry about that steak! Nothing worse than being all ready for a lovely piece of steak, and it failing. This happened to me recently with rack of lamb...which reminds me.....

I blot the steak then salt it and.dry it in the fridge for 2 hours then blot it again before it gets cooked. Less chance of steaming. Don't cover a grill pan.

Store bought Strawberry Rhubarb. One of those half deals wrapped in plastic I would never ordinarily buy. I must have known. After the steak, it was delicious. Breyers Vanilla was the mode. But enough steamed steak. Thanksgiving is coming. This is our menu. Oysters. Roast turkey, my sweetheart's stuffing, mashed turnip and mashed potatoes, and green beans. Giblet gravy. Pumpkin pie. We will gather together. So thankful.
