Pre-Trip Report

Not sure I've seen a pre-trip report. We head down in three weeks on an AA late afternoon flight to CLT with an overnight connection leaving at a very civilized hour the following morning bound for SXM. Connecting with Monsieur Vincent's coddling on a mid-afternoon Winair flight to SBH.

Odile will have our sturdy, reliable Jimny trois portes at the ready.

Staying in Vitet as usual via Corcoran.

Reservations made as prudent for our list including L'Isola, Mamo, Tamarin (Valentine's ❤️), Toiny Beach Club, Al Mare, Le nouveau Grain de Sel, Nyama, FishCorner, Lucali, Le Piment, Pearl Beach, and la villa, bien sûr.

À suivre . . .

Trés exciting!

Where are you staying in CLT? I go there often for business and stay at the Westin in Uptown. The hotel restaurant there, Dogwood, is surprisingly good. There is a dish called duck and dumplings or such. It’s duck confit. My regular routine after checking in is getting a seat at the bar and ordering that along with a local brew. There is a good wine by the glass selection too. It’s 15 minutes to the airport.

Thanks for recommendation. We'll just be in an "airport" hotel with few minutes shuttle each way. Really just have time for good night's rest then back to CLT.

CLT has numerous restaurants that get fine reviews...PBS has a series on now about a couple who own several...will look for the names if can find. 5 hour drive trip from the lowcountry of SC so we would always fly from SAV...usually a half hour flight, then to SJU & finally SBH...

PBS series is called Fork & Hammer, takes you to the restaurants a couple has/is building in CLT, decor, menu decisions, staffing etc.

Enjoy your SBH time & look forward to your posts, safe travels!

Just curious, is Pearl Beach a locally owned establishment ?
No. It's owned by a French fellow who also has roots in Norway. He owns Le Bouchon, as well. His daughter manages the Pearl Beach Hotel . . . her companion manages the restaurants (both are from Norway). They're lovely young people and are working diligently to build the reputations for quality and service in all the facilities.

Just pre-ordered and paid online for our villa libations from La Cave du Port Franc. Hope to swing by from l'aéroport to pick up before installing ourselves in Vitet. Comtes de Champagne, H. Boillot Meursault, C. Moreau Chablis, Ott Romassan rosé, Clément vieux et blanc pour les ti-punchs, and a bottle of '82 Dartigalongue Bas-Armagnac to bring back home. Nice to have all that taken care of ahead of time.

If you gve me villa coordinates, I could be your quiet, late night intruder!

We can help out too! Team Vitet!! And we have two vehicles to safely transport many cases! We usually purchase from the distributor Bottle and More and receive a local discount on top of the more wholesale price. It’s based on volume, something that is not a problem for us so we know how many cases we can fit per vehicle in one trip. It’s also not La Cave but there is extra room in the Defender for the finer wines. After all, safety first…protect the vino.

All kidding aside, while both companies do deliver but it is much more fun to make the run ~ my husband and I are like little kids when we stock up!

La Cave du Port Franc also offers discounts to those who establish an account with them. I’ve had one for several years.
