I was just called and informed there is a private plane that outrun the runway and is in the sand/beach area in st. jean.............going to check it out...........anyone staying here with a camera? they have to stop airplane traffic.what a mess

Can't wait to see the photo. This is the reason why it is important to pay attention when walking St. Jean beach.

I was on a private flight one time that ran off the runway into the adjacent volleyball "court" on the beach. After briefly scattering, the players ran up to our plane and pushed it back onto the runway before airport personnel could even get to us. We taxied quite normally to the terminal . . . where the pilot had a lot of explaining to do. We passengers, however, were simply asked by a gendarme if we were OK . . . and then invited to enjoy St. Barths!

Private plane from san juan. must have happened around 1:30pm-2:00pm ....no planes coming or going until around 3:30. alot of damage to the plane. thought we were going to be stuck in sxm, but once the airport opened, they quickly made runs to sbh and back. SBC was down one pilot at the time and had two planes running instead of three.
Hey Dennis, stayed at the Normandie last night before we go over to our villa later this morning. Nancy says "nice bed"...ha. I must say that you did a very good job...the room is spotless.

Thanks for the report, Mike! I'm sorry that I didn't know that you and Nancy were going to be there!

I'm also VERY glad to get Nancy's blessing on the bed. The beds were a special order for us after Wendy did MONTHS & MONTHS of research. Recalling the whole process is making me feel sleepy!

Have a great visit! It's disappointing that I won't be there to share some laughs with the two of you . . . our other visits have been delightful.

Have a great trip, mes amis! I'm already kicking myself for not being there this time of year : ) You kids have a blast.

Have a wonderful visit, Mike and Nancy. You are becoming lucky multi-trip people like several others on the Forum. Enjoy!

Mike and Nancy,

Us too! Wish we there to join you in some good times. Hope you have great weather and enjoy! We will see you next year in June, if not sooner.

Steve & Kathy

I was there and saw it happen from up on the roundabout. The pilot landed way too late and couldn't stop in time.

OK, I'll give this a shot. Hopefully it works. It does look like Flickr shrunk the pictures but you can still see what's going on.

I also have some video but I'm not sure offhand how to post it as it's HD video and a couple hundred megabytes in size. I'll try to see if the software included with the camcorder is capable of shrinking it.

Great pictures and just like being on the scene. Thank you for great embedded reporting, Podwich

Not really...you will not arrive on that type of plane (unless you own one). Landing usually takes half the runway and then they taxi to the end and turn around to go to the terminal...it's really not that big of a deal.
