Carl's Jr. is good, and I frequent them on the West Coast. In 'n Out Burger is better, and I frequent them on the West Coast too. Neither is likely to make it to the East Coast in the foreseeable future. Carl's Jr. has made it to OK. In 'n Out, which claims to never freeze their burgers, appears to want to stay within a 1-day drive of their CA beef processing plant, has a number of outposts in TX. That's it. Neither has the Mississippee in their sights, let alone anything east of there.

5 Guys are here too. There is one right next to the steak place that I mentioned as a possibility for this weekend. It's an option.

Try one at Minnettas Tavern in the Village......

used to be a place near there I think was called the Riviera.. great burgers... this was our hang out at NYU, they often showed old movies as well...

Minetta Tavern is great, dates back to the 1930s but was been back on the NYC dining map after Keith McNally (Balthazar...among others) took it over in 2009. The renovations are supposed to be true to the original, there is an awesome village scene fresco in the back room. The a infamous Black Label burger is great, made with aged beef. Be sure to get a reservation, it's very popular!

Named after a long-gone stream that drained into the Hudson.

our routine back in my college days was McSorelys for a few brews and then Minetta for a burger......

but that was back in the day before all the Johnny come latelys turned McSorely into a tourist trap and Minetta into a place you need a reservation for........

We always hike into Colombier one or two mornings then lunch at Creperie.......Been doing it long enough to call it tradition:cool:

I have a somewhat similar routine....put on a pot of coffee.....early morning walk to Colombier..take a swim.....walk back....a cup of coffee on the patio,.... then head to Petit Colombe for breakfast stuff..

and the girls still havent even stirred yet....LOL

First light and early morning on island are fine with me too. At home I refer to this time slot as proof of insomnia. On island I call it an early start to another great day.

I am an early riser no matter what...

being a life long commercial fisherman will do that to you.....

and yes sunrise twilight and just past it is the best time of day - really anywhere for me.....St Barts..the Cape..the mountains..they are all magnificent at that time..the light is outstanding too
