As with many public works projects around St. Barth, the new boardwalk has just been completed in time for the holiday season. I think readers will agree that it's a huge improvement over the wooden walkway that was washed away in a storm last year -

spoken like someone who actually lives on the water and not just vacations there....and as one who also lives on the water, I agree 100%...give me boards on a boardwalk....drainage is going to be a b**ch..count on that..

What's a construction project without a Change Order? Get out the coring tool, add a drain or twenty. If they used the amount of rebar that they should have, bring lots of extra blades.

Looks lovely. I took a stroll down it one night when it was still a work in progress.

I love it! I call it the "baby" quay because it is where dinghies and small boats tie-up. Dan prefers the traditional planks but I agree with Diana---won't have to worry about catching my heels. Progress is good...sometimes.

I checked it out in November...no storm drains...zero...nada....so when a hard tropical rain comes down....the retaining wall will seal and funnel all the water somewhere....my guess is towards the Buccanneer....there is a very good reason that someone centuries ago decided that planks with gaps were the best thing for a dock.....the reason that dock failed in Gustavia is it was built horribly....we have wooden docks up here that have withstood nor easters...ice...rain...storm surges....10 foot tides...and they are still there...

my response is found at the 50 second mark to the 1:20 mark.....this whole video is SOOOOOO St Barts these days as it relates to rebuilding docks and beaches and everything else.... :laugh:
