The late, great "La Gloriette" . . . then "La Kala"

. . . lease of the property now held by Le Sereno, which has been trying to figure out what to do with it. It seems that it'll be open in the new "season" -- for one year only -- as a third party-operated "beach club." In this regard, it appears that there have been numerous efforts from Le Sereno to find a single-season operator of the La Kala facility, but marketing, "positioning," size & staff issues befuddle prospective operators. The facility may have been over-built. It no longer is the quaint, small, comfortable venue with a strongly-loyal local clientele and affordable operating overhead, as it was in days of La Gloriette.

We'll soon see who is the operator & how it'll be positioned to stand out in a crowded market.

I still have hopes that Le Sereno will turn it into something other than YABC - Yet Another Beach Club, similar to the annoying ones infesting St Jean.
A usually reliable source has suggested to me — intentionally not confirming the rumor — that the season operator of “La Kala,” or whatever it may be called, will be a gentleman, Eric Omores, who was the original developer of Nikki Beach St. Barths . . . as he partnered in early 2000’s with Nikki’s founder, Jack Pernod, to expand the brand internationally.

I remember when Eric and Mylene ran Nikki Beach….we lunched there every on island Sunday!

That’s great, Amy!! A real throw-back, fun memory! I was only slightly acquainted with Eric, who was a very young & gracious “gentleman” of an earlier time. By contrast, however, Mylene & I were “buddies” from her days in running, with her brother, René, “Le New Feeling” in Lurin.

I don’t know if you ever attended, previously, one of the ”floor shows“ of Mylene & René in L’Orient at “La Banane” . . . the Cabaret performances being an offshoot of Jean-Marie Rivière‘s risqué Cabaret shows in Paris. Mylene successfully morphed the scene of La Banane to L’orient for a time . . . with famed “foam parties” (I think I remember seeing you & Phil there!!! —LOL!).

Thank you for this happy remembrance!

I have a memory of a cabaret-like performance, with a walkway structured over a pool. It would be around 25- 30 years ago. Was that at La Banane? It's such a hazy memory. I could never quite pinpoint where it was (and could have been a different island).

Yes . . . La Banane was across from the “Miini U” in Lorient. There was a pool there in Cabaret venue. It later became a small, artsy Hotel & now is a private residence. As a Hotel, a second pool was added — one for morning sun, the other for afternoon sun.

Did they use a walkway across the pool and perform on that walkway? Like a platform? That's what I remember.

Well . . . yes, but my memory is of the performers being all over the place, including wandering among guests & tables.

So you might laugh, but I just went to a birthday party where they also had a "silent disco"..one of the hottest entertainment things going! This would solve the problem of having a beach club minus the thump thump that could disturb the "peace". It is soooo much fun and you must look it up to really understand it but basically you put on headphones with different styles of music (ours had 3 channels) and a bunch of other party stuff, like flashing lights on your headphones, and everyone was dancing around and by the light color flashing on your headphones, you would know what others were listening to and dancing to and you just change the channel on your headphones if you want another style of music. You don't need a partner to dance this way, either..(DD says that I get "TWO dances per year..choose wisely".. So do yourself a favor and look up this super fun type of entertainment in a number of guises..😅..I think I might put on another fundraiser for my charity with a silent disco, so I have to believe that someone in SBH knows how this goes. You would not believe how popular this is at weddings, etc., too!
