One should also consider that the island gets revenue from the importation of diesel. If the island went completely green it would probably go bust.

Anyone know how solar panels in SBH or SXM fared in Irma? It seems that the pricing regime is a bit of a disincentive since EdF subsidizes electricity in SBH. So they burn diesel instead of looking at greener alternatives.
