SBH-Related Coronavirus Information

Nothing as yet.

President Magras is pushing to relax the lockdown for those who are presently on-island, but I haven't seen anything official regarding opening the door to others from off-island. At present, only a very specific subset of people are permitted to travel to St Barth, and that is limited to family reunification, those traveling for medical reasons, and critical workers.

ARS Guadeloupe reports no change in the numbers since yesterday.

There are no new cases on St Barth. Previously reported were a total of 6 cases, all 6 of whom have recovered. There are no longer any confirmed cases on St Barth.

There are no new cases on St Martin. Previously reported were a total of 38 cases, including 24 who have recovered and 4 deceased (including a Sint Maarten resident). 2 patients are listed as hospitalized (including 1 transferred to Guadeloupe), 3 are listed as "repatriated", and 5 are listed as confined at home.

I was told by a person on the testing committee that the test equipment has arrived. It will take at least 1 week for it to be used. How it's used I do not know.

I was told that 2 that arrived from France have the virus here, but not sure if it's accurate. I also saw this today by the Collectivitie. Maybe for testing?

A translation from Le Journal about opening St. Barth before the continent - sorry it pasted oddly:

The Minister of Economy raised the issue of restaurants and bars on Friday morning, which are particularly affected by the health crisis. Emmanuel Macron had announced that they would not reopen on May 11, without giving a specific deadline. Bruno Le Maire said this morning that a date would be announced in a month: "A revoyure clause set at the end of May will allow us to define with the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister a date for the reopening of bars , cafes, restaurants, "he said. "Nothing would be worse than to reopen in a hurry, which would then force us to close again. We prefer to give ourselves the time to reopen in the best possible sanitary conditions ”.

A guide to good practice will be provided to each establishment, the milling of which has already been carried out by professionals in the sector: tables spaced at least one meter apart, reservations limited to eight people, obligation for staff to wash their hands every thirty minutes… "We are going to study this guide with Muriel Pénicaud (Minister of Labor, note), it will then have to be given a legal form".

Bruno Le Maire also announced specific aid for the sector. The dedicated support fund will be extended to companies in the hotel and catering industry employing more than twenty employees and achieving up to 2 million annual turnover. The aid will be doubled for all these companies, up to a limit of 10,000 euros.

Nevertheless, Saint-Barthélemy could be treated differently. Bruno Magras is actively pleading for an early resumption of activity on the island, arguing that the virus is not circulating and that a screening campaign will soon be put in place. Annick Girardin, Minister of Overseas France, said she was in favor of an adaptation of the deconfinement according to local particularities, yesterday on Radio Saint-Barth. Laurent Nunez, number 2 of the Interior Ministry, also indicated on Europe 1 "that there will be an adaptation of the deconfinement plan to local specificities, among which the state of advancement of the virus". What to raise the hope of a reopening as of May 11 for the establishments of Saint-Barthélemy, if no new case of Covid-19 is not detected until then.

There is again no change in the numbers, but one St Martin patient is now listed as being in the hospital in Martinique instead of Guadeloupe. Elsewhere, there was a mention of an "evasan", an "évacuation sanitaire", French for a Medevac, from Guadeloupe to Martinique. I'm guessing that this evasan was the move of the St Martin patient from Guadeloupe to Martinique, but that is nothing more than conjecture on my part. The evasan was performed by a helicopter off of the Dixsmude.

Here is a status update from ARS Guadeloupe, as translated by Google Translate:

Coronavirus information
Update on Monday April 27, 2020
- Assessment in Saint-Martin:
The number of "active" patients is 7 people, 1 of whom is hospitalized in Martinique. 20 men and 18 women contracted the disease. All the districts are concerned.

- Assessment in Saint-Brathélemy:
There are no longer any "active" patients on the territory. 3 women and 3 men contracted the disease.

Keep your distance and imperatively respect confinement:
Confinement reduces social interactions and therefore limits the spread of the virus. It is imperative that we all see ourselves as carriers of the virus and that we adopt the right behaviors.

The extension of PCR tests on the territory to patients with little symptom or at particular risk has started in order to precisely assess the level of circulation of the virus beyond the epidemiological monitoring implemented for 1 month by Santé Publique France.

Masks for healthcare professionals:
To date and since March 19, the ARS has given 900,000 masks to professionals, 600,000 on state stock and 300,000 from donations. ARS managed the distribution of masks for healthcare professionals on the front line of care for COVID patients and for providing urgent care. The state mask stock is affected by Public Health France and the ARS must respect the distribution criteria defined by the national level. This being the case, the ARS wishes, on its margin of maneuver linked to donations, to help all health professionals to prepare for their resumption of activity while waiting in the coming weeks for the resumption of conventional supply networks.

We will not be able to implement the deconfinement strategy if the circulation of the virus is restarted by non-compliance with the barrier measures.

Any idea when tourism will resume on the island, i have a feeling that 2020 is a washout

I am guessing you are right about 2020. We have a villa booked for the last week of August first week of September with friends. I think we are going to have to cancel it.

I was told that there are flights to Guadeloupe and then to SBH. No restrictions on French citizens traveling to France. Like in the USA.

Travel between the islands of the French West Indies, and between the French West Indies and mainland France is limited, and for a limited set of reasons.

Before being able to board the plane, they had to provide proof of the reason for their trip: medical reason, essential professional or family reason. Last Wednesday, the Air Antilles plane was full, with eleven passengers bound for Saint-Barth. Young students returning to their parents, island residents returning home, a couple bringing their newborn home, a construction professional who comes to work for an urgent need, and for whom the employer had to demonstrate that he couldn't delay his trip.”

We were lucky enough to be on the island the end of February and first of March. Flew back on 3/6. I don't think year 2020 is a wash by a long run. We are hoping to get back to SBH or Turks & Caicos in the Fall (October). I think/hope things we'll be well under control by then. Late in the year and winter could be trouble, but sure hope not. But i am holding off on making reservations.
