Our 2 day visit

Well, all good things have to come to an end, and now we are waiting at the San Juan airport, hoping our plane will go. (Through ATL to SAN 😱..). I have to say that after a very rough start, I felt great the rest of the trip and honestly, the entire SeaDream experience was amazing as cruises go. But of course, the sea dictates what activities and stops you make so we missed some snorkeling due to weather or lack of sign ups so you pay your money and you take your chancesšŸ˜‚. The food could not have been better and the crew were gems: every person was over the top and very genuine. I loved all of them! I think January can be dicey in the Caribbean, even in SBH, so we might switch back to April if Delta doesn’t keep those certificates coming šŸ˜‚!

Bon, on to SBH. So you know mostly about Odileā¤ļø and day 1. Fantastic dinner evening at L’Esprit: since I got my foie gras, nobody got hurt! Terrific as always. My main course was good but not what I was expecting; it was ahi, which I love, but in a sort of crust which made me think of Wiener schnitzel, as it it did not work that well. Now, I love Wiener schnitzel but I’d leave the crust on veal in the future.

So Day 2 started off great: first stop, Laura came and brought the car to the pier and off we went to Lorient to Ligne St Barth to pick up the rest of my perfume haul.. 3 bottles, newly packaged in dark amber, to prevent light. Great idea. I have 5 more bottles at home but it is kept in the dark and it keeps fine, so purchase away, fans! Without my Vanille perfume, nobody would know me🤪! Another person kept ā€œ in the darkā€ must have been DD, because when he saw the price (it used to be 59 E..now 127E), he was shocked. Mostly he never even notices so that was a moment šŸ˜‚. DD thinks lots of things are priced in the past..šŸ™„šŸ™„. In the US. I have seen the perfume, even if you could get it, for $220 +tax, so I saved him some $$ as it is almost buy one, get one free! ( You can see my logic, right?!)

Next, I went next door to Monoprix Maison to check out that Monopoly SBH game. So cute but he talked me out of it..should have listened to myself but since he was already in sticker shock, thought I’d give him a break because I was heading to OcĆ©anne’s Brin d’île shoe and purse store and I knew it was a potential blood bath coming 🤪..!

A highlight of every trip is seeing OcĆ©anne and her gorgeous store at L’Oasis! Her beautiful mother was there and she expanded her store to DOUBLE the size! I was so happy for her obvious success because she is one of the nicest people on the planet and we want all the young generation shopkeepers to succeed! A great collection as always and this year, my theme is pink (I usually choose a theme color each trip😁) and was not disappointed! Pink suede loafers and black suede as well..I could live in them. Now, living in California, we have little rain, so suede works year round. Speaking from a long time, multigenerational effect of a shoe gene in my family, I may (or may not) have about 30 pairs of Tod’s in various forms ((I keep most everything for years) , and OcĆ©anne’s are handmade so you have to try them on as there are variations slightly but she can send you anything! Tod’s are also hand made but they got into some hot water in Italy for labor practices so I am supporting OcĆ©anne for numerous reasons, not the least of which is her personal involvement with each itemšŸ‘šŸ‘šŸ‘. Anna goes over the collection with her, too ( She is in Italy and France so I missed her😢). She has the beaded Saint Barth sandals, incidentally made in Italy by De Siena, but only she has the SBH ones. I have 2 pair and also some from St-Trop’..so cute and you need them, trust me! Lots of other sandals, some of which are HermĆØs inspired but I bought so many of her other wrap sandals (Kevin inspired !)in the past, I stuck with loafers. By the way, you can have both HermĆØs and Brin d’île in case you are wondering.. it all works! But nobody is walking around with OcĆ©anne’s and you have special joy and a little ā€œwinkā€ to yourself for having something others don’t have, except for the cognoscenti on the Forum😊!

Oh, did you say ā€œ pursesā€? Yes, you did! I only got one shoulder style black (I have orange) Evelyne type little one and now I am super sorry that I did not get 6 of those little python crossbodies for 195 E which is cheaper than a pair of jeans) but DD was giving me the ā€œdon’t you have enough of those python bagsā€ look and I folded like a bad poker hand.. old age is make weak, I think; that or I have to convert another room to a purse room. ( I have the real ones, too..maybe he recognizes them?) I tried to flash the shiny ones so he couldn’t see clearly..šŸ™„but given my Super U haul, I relented🄲. Don’t be sorry.. go buy gifts for your friends! Oh, I should have told him they were for my friends.. he might have had visions of the Italian trip purses from last May, so maybe it’s better this way..

So next door to OcƩanne, her adorable cousin opened a makeup and beauty store, named Caly, which is similar to the name of my dog, so good vibes all around. She is focused on the hottest beauty from Korea but has many more girly hair scrunchies and accessories and has some really jewelry in there. Nice lip oils, face creams, etc. The young ladies will enjoy this little shop.

Ok, just got a text that our flight is delayed 35 min and counting.. only have a short turn around in ATL so we might be spending the night there if we even get out of here. 😱😱😱😱😱.
But back to our program…
Alors, afterwards I stopped by the other little clothing store called Sable Show where this lovely lady will help you with cheap and cheerful dresses, bags, and cute little sandals that say St Barth. Different every year but last time I got these adorable St Barth sandals that were exactly like my Christian Diors and looked just as good.. and I REALLY like Dior..this year, they were not quite as good but they were pretty fun if you don’t have the ones I got before. The proprietor is so nice and she really helps you!

Crossed over to a quick visit to Super U, (Visit to S U #3 after 2 on St Martin🤪..I could be a tour guide)to pick up even more stuff, as each one has different stock and I always go for the MonoĆÆ scented items (anything from LOVEA)as America does not have any, and France has Tahiti, so Vive Le monoĆÆ..and Le Coco scents). To make an understatement, France has tout votre bonheur.. and I’d make that plural.. (you know my rant about the exquisite quality of French grocery store beauty and everything else products) We will get back to this later because we have to go to lunch…at ER!

Well, if you are feeling like you need a dose of happiness, get yourself over to Eden Rock, look at those red and white stripes on the 2026 jeep in front and have some lunch! You can first rĆ©gale yourself by walking into the bar area and see the new red and white specially created toile wall fabric and Bordeaux colored fabric curtains.. speaks to me because of my taste (might not be yours?) but I love it! Then you hit the turquoise water of the baie and the contrast will put you into a state of nirvana, or wherever you go for a good time🤪! Water has been a bit rough but everyone was drinking on the fabulous raft with drinks delivered..probably can’t have a much better time (unless you are a Nikki person like me, )but this is equally good because we had a great DJ at ER but it was not loud.. just perfect, and we have not even gotten to the food!

Sorry to say there was no foie gras (bon, d’accord, I’d eat it for breakfast), but the lobster roll had its just reputation! I traded the accompanying fries for a lovely green truffle vinaigrette salad, trying to save a few calories ( we do what we can..) and DD was trying to be virtuous (Americans are nuts when it comes to food, especially with all the calorie horse trading that goes on internally šŸ™„šŸ¤ŖšŸ¤Ŗ) so he had a salade niƧoise but he ate all the fries, so I got a couple. Just sitting and watching the baie made me want to jump in, so I sublimated my desire with a stroll through the boutique. Simply irresistible, as Robert Palmer might have sung, but they are not well stocked on ER stuff so I took myself over to my friend, Alicia at Terra next to Nikki, where she has a fantastic and extraordinary collection and I always find things from the label PHO FIRENZE, which often resembles Missoni. I have a lot of Missoni but the dresses were quite upset that they didn’t make the trip, so I am bringing them some friends!

More later..flight keeps getting delayed and now even if we go, we will miss our connecting flight 🤮🤮🤮

I am SO glad I had already left when you arrived, because your report would have made me shop more, and I am trying to downsize. I deprived myself from going in to Ligne di St Barth because I still have plenty from prior trips. And I did a major haul at the Pharmacy in St Jean. (And I didn't even enter the Parapharmacie which is usually my FIRST stop. That is the miss I regret.) I walked in and out of Brin d'Ile without buying a thing, although I really did want the St Barth Flats - in pink, that's what I would have done. Otherwise, I wasn't really tempted. (I'm not a flats girl, and they didn't have high enough wedges for my taste). I walked past the other stores without entering, as it was my last morning, I was already packed, and knew I was flirting right at the luggage weight (in fact, the Jet Blue lady said I was a pound over, but they would let it go.). I bought a lot of Bonne Maman cookies home, and fig jam. A new Filorga mask, my favorite toothpaste, I bought the A313 retinol to try. I just looked in the window of that beauty store, it didn't appeal from the outside, but I guess I should have gone in - I really like the Korean overnight collagen masks.

If I had read your report first, I may have been inspired to shop more. I have envy for what the size of your closets must be...I've given away 20-30 pairs of shoes in the last few years, I just don't have room. And a sh!t-ton of clothing (I have a whole other pile to go.) I'm not a "capsule collection" kind of girl at all. But I do want to get it down to a more manageable size. (Yes, I've hopped onto the downsizing train...but things being what they are, I kinda think about leaving the US more and more, and I won't need all of this "stuff.")

Sounds like a fabulous trip. I agree - Eden Rock is a pretty piece of paradise.

Well, Delta has been extraordinarily helpful as I called them and they got us on the last flight out of ATL so there is a chance we will make it. I’m not a betting person but the odds are not in our favor šŸ™„.

However, on continue. Our plane is on its way but no idea if we can get to ATL..and SAN..

Then we took a stroll over to La Villa CrĆ©ole for a visit to Sandra at the hidden boutique L’Origine St Barth, over to the right of the new Mapo down the little sidewalk. Another cheap and cheerful place to pick up some fun beach clothes and regular clothes for both men and women. I was so happy to find a pink version (it’s a pink yearšŸ˜‚) of the short and top ā€œtoile de jouyā€ set I got in blue last year and luckily it had both pieces as you can buy individually. They have a few pieces (satin material) left in other colors,too..very comfortable and Sandra is the best stylist and really does a great job of putting together outfits for you. Extra credit if you are tall..great beach flowy dresses. Prices are pretty amazing..maybe 79 E for a dress and I think my 2 piece set was about 132 E, which is super reasonable for very nice quality. Guys, she has not forgotten you, too! A nice couch to sit outside as well.

Didn’t get to Mapo but it looked great and much nicer than before. Afterwards, we went to pick up the car at ER and drop it in the lot across from Prada, just as instructed by Laura and got a text from Odile. Such a great convenience so don’t hesitate to plan renting a car from her if you want to get out and about, especially if you come in for a day or a few because she makes it so easy! Just drive carefully if you are new at this island…DD still doesn’t let me get behind the wheel🤪!

Missing all our other favorites: La Casina, La Langouste, little Ti’ Corail..but made it to Cantina for DD..they make great drinks also. And some great fries, as my ā€œfry judgeā€ has confirmed. I am rather team sweet potato fries, and I assure you, Cantina’s are greatšŸ˜‹. You always meet nice people there, except the smokers..

Oh, I have mentally been preparing to downsize but I am always running around..I have to take inspiration from your disciplineā¤ļø! If you live in NY (I am a native), there is no way to accumulate too much for sure! And what you eat, you do not have to store! I do buy a lot of French food products from many sources and I will find you the Bonne Maman tartlelettes/cookies and you can probably find them in NYC..your food is so fabulous and our neighbors live part time in Manhattan so she goes around to all the bakeries and brings me things..the nicest neighbors!

(So interestingly enough, my sister in law sold everything but 3 suitcases worth of stuff and bought some sort of small room on a round the world ship. It is called the Odyssey and is a cheaper version of The World but the itinerary (3 years) is the most incredible list you would ever see. Check it out if you want an alternative. A great value for what you get!)

Yeah, I'm sure I could find them, but they're double the price here, and there's just that special feeling about bringing them home.

(I live near Eataly and I'm a big fan of the Mulino Bianco and Matilde Vicenzi cookies/tarts and Loacker wafers too. European brands are more flavorful, less reliant on sugar to satisfy cravings. They seem to have discontinued my favorite flaky breakfast puffs, which is so disappointing.)

The first time I did a full Marie Kondo purge of clothing, I got rid of a full third of my wardrobe, at least. And I'm fine with all I got rid of (she has this whole thing about "does it give you joy" and if it gives you guilt, get rid of it. I had this truly gorgeous Max Mara wool camel pin stripe pantsuit that I just never wore. I can't explain why, but I just never wore it. And seeing it in my closet always made me feel like I "should" wear it, but never wanted to. So it was a negative...getting rid of it was a wise move.) Interesting about the Odyssey... something to think about.

Ooh, love all your food brands! And Eataly, too! I went to that one near the Flatiron building last time in NY, quite a while ago and go to the L A one when I am there or order my Pannetone from them. And you would never know it, but I do love the Marie Kondo attitude also..working on my motivation 😁.! I keep all my Max Mara coats but not wear them but I don’t want to get rid of them..too expensive to replace! Well, one of these days, it’s all going to happen 😁

No purses in pink?

Hot news flash for Risa et.al.: just woke up at home and EATALY is having a MAJOR sale online and pick up of your favorite cookies you mentioned and Caribbean prices! Get busy and make us proud..wonderful bargains to be had! Pannetone, here I comešŸ„°šŸ˜‹šŸ˜‹šŸ˜‹ Buon appetitošŸ˜‹šŸ˜‹šŸ˜‹šŸ˜‹

I knew about the sale, of course, and jut came back...even the sales clerk noted "that's a lot of snacks!" (I did buy pasta and canned cherry tomatoes to make sauce and branzino, but mostly a LOT of Loacker wafers, which were even cheaper than on line. They didn't have my favorites, though. I think they've been discontinued.)

What are your favorites? For me, I have to pay shipping, though..wish I could just run over there but enjoy your goodies!!

I love the Loacker lemon wafers - so deliciously tart, although I bought a bunch of flavors. The Mathilde Vincenze breakfast puffs are my favorite, but they're hard to find. They're flaky like a croissant with just the right amount of buttery sweetness. There are filled ones, but I like the flaky unfilled ones the best.
