Flammands Parking

We have been here for one week now and have never been able to park at Flammands. The only parking we know if is at the first entrance to the beach and along the street there but they are always filled. Is there anywhere else where we can legally park and get into Flammands? Thanks!

Drive through to the rock and turn around. There is parking at the far end of the beach on the street. Not a lot though

Reserve lunch at La langouste park in their lot and have a great day at the beach and a great lunch.

We have never failed to access Flammands via the far end by p'tit anse. Very nice newish public parking spots along the road beachside.

I concur.....always use the valet....its a cheap park and easy access to the beach.

and if you get hungry....the hotel has a nice lunch menu.

btw, this is the only beach on the island that I consider too dangerous for a swim. undercurrent is too strong. a man in his sixties died a few weeks ago kite surfing there. I think he had a heart attack, but I am not sure if that was the official cause. A rogue wave pulled me out once and it was difficult getting back to shore, so no more flamands beach for me.

As the years have gone by and I've gotten older, I've developed more and more respect for waves. I agree about Flamands, especially the east-ish side. But unless you're a young and very fit, very good swimmer, pretty much any beach on the island (with the exception of Grand cul-de-Sac and maybe Petit cul-de-Sac and L'Orient) can be dangerous, depending on the wind, the tides, the current shape of the beach (by which I mean the actual shape, not its cleanliness or anything like that). For instance, I love Saline, but from time to time I've been bounced around pretty well there and once got kind of scared I was going to drown from the undertow; other times, my grandkids have frolicked in the 6-inch waves there.

Anyway, I'm way overdue for a visit to SBH, so it's nice to think about it here in (currently cold but beautiful) Nashville.

When the surf is up Flamands can be scary but when it's relatively calm, I swim its length and back every day. You just have to wade or dive past the breaker line. It's exhilarating if you're a strong swimmer!
