As the years have gone by and I've gotten older, I've developed more and more respect for waves. I agree about Flamands, especially the east-ish side. But unless you're a young and very fit, very good swimmer, pretty much any beach on the island (with the exception of Grand cul-de-Sac and maybe Petit cul-de-Sac and L'Orient) can be dangerous, depending on the wind, the tides, the current shape of the beach (by which I mean the actual shape, not its cleanliness or anything like that). For instance, I love Saline, but from time to time I've been bounced around pretty well there and once got kind of scared I was going to drown from the undertow; other times, my grandkids have frolicked in the 6-inch waves there.
Anyway, I'm way overdue for a visit to SBH, so it's nice to think about it here in (currently cold but beautiful) Nashville.
