Etoile Hotel permit cancelled

we'll have to wait and see . . .
the com expressed disappointment in the decision too, as the principal parties had invested considerable time and resources to tailor the new permit so as to make stakeholders happy.
apparently, some stakeholders can't be made happy. one wonders why that may be.
As some Forum readers are of an age to remember “Watergate” days, it’s interesting to recall valued advice that importantly led to unraveling the scandal. Offered by “Deep Throat,” a source for Washington Post investigative reporters: “Follow the money.” As applied to the present situation, who’s funding this expensive, prolonged legal proceeding? Some deep-pocket “greenies?” Someone with an economic stake in the outcome? It’s clearly not the Collectivité paying the legal bills.

As somebody (Cass?) mentioned the latest case against the project was initiated or joined by the local (business) interests and it is understandable that those interests prefer not to have yet another competitor and are ready to spend some Euros on that. Disclaimer: the above is just educated guessing, not some insider knowledge.

Just to add to this, an
I had no problem with the original plan and certainly not the modified plan. It's an eyesore the way it is.
To echo the above and to to respond to Reed's question at the same time: yes we all have a "horse" in this project even those of us who are not living full time on the island. If we would not care about what is happening at the Island why would we join this forum? And this project is a significant "happening" here. And speaking about Le Barthelemy, interestingly enough its construction had its own complicated and controversial history marred by financial problems and land ownership changes as I recall.

The construction was not complicated by financial issues. The complicated financial issues & controversy related to the prior owner, its BK, & litigation with its lender, a US hedge fund. Le Barthélemy (& its related ownership structure) were (& are, IMO) above reproach it their financial capacity & efforts to strike a fair balance with disparate interests in its island developments.

Yes it's what I meant. I did not mean Mark and Denise. Staying near the abandoned construction site (for a few years maybe) of what at the end has become Le Barthelemy (and loosing our beloved original Le Rivage restaurant in the demolition) and hearing that the the developer (Guillermo Pardo) is bankrupt was not fun. We were glad there was a happy end (it took about 10 years or so) in that story, and it will certainly be the same with Etoile. The question is when.

I care too. I stayed at villa oxy, on the other side of pearl/tom beach years ago. Wonderful memories and can't wait to stay at the new resort whenever it comes about.

I wonder if the parking garage, and the subsequent excavation, had not been part of the original plan if this new hotel would have been built without all this controversy long ago?
