Earlier in the year I read the book EMPIRE OF PAIN about Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family.
Now I have finished a book that talks about the people, real life kinds of people, and the lives ruined by drugs. With the fentanyl pouring in to the states across our borders, we can see more ruined lives looming ahead of us.
This book takes place in the poor rural towns of VA KY and TN. It could be anywhere. We see the damage. Poor education, few job opportunities, teenage pregnancy, foster care, family services, and no one giving a damn. Well, too few anyway. This is heavy reading and so rewarding. I hated the dilemmas while I loved and cared about the characters. The book is beautifully written even though the truths it hits on are so often plain ugly.
This is one helluva good read. So cozy up, and get into it. You won’t be sorry. And then count your blessings.
