Whither St. Barth tourism? A comment on last week’s conference
Wait until The Groups take over.Just a focus on "How to tip".
This is really a shame. I read articles about the planned conference and had hope it would be geared towards finding a healthier balance for island tourism. Sounds the opposite. While there has always been a place for beach clubs and luxury, as we all know, that balance has shifted greatly in recent years with the influx of mainland groups and the crowd they attract taking a larger share. Instead of finding better balance and focusing on what makes St Barth unique, pockets will only grow deeper unless those in charge realize they are in fact ultimately "putting all their eggs in a small basket of rich young entitled people."Whither St. Barth tourism? A comment on last week’s conference
New generations. New tastes. The point is the "tally" of many newer visitors is increasingly the opposite.
I’m trying. And watch what's going on on Nantucket...locals there aren't necessarily accepting "it is what it is".
Sadly it sounds like the loudest voices at the tourism conference were those who want St Barth to head in the direction of St Tropez. I for one hope for louder voices from the other side.
You don't go to to trade shows for tourism and tout an exclusive experience; you don't bring journalists from luxury publications and influencers to the island to promote the glitz and the glamour; try and control the message...Ok. How does one limit social media exposure ?
