So to a sensitive question, which French-speaking islands in the Caribbean still most closely resemble that 1985 description of SB? Any thoughts?
The only island I can think of which remains undeveloped is Marie-Galante. Definitely a relax atmosphere and old-fashioned Caribbean. No, there is no Nikki Beach or Bagatelle, and restaurants are mostly local but you will find authenticity, plenty of nature and extremely laid-back people. No road traffic, no Pilatus noise at the airport and no construction site next to your villa.
Beaches are stunning, particularly on the North shore, and totally empty! They also produce the best rum in the French Caribbean.
