That casino idea is back. Just up the hill from Le Repaire

I've been known to lose $ in casinos, but say this isn't so......in my mind, "casino" is the opposite of "St. Barth"

Something new (29 août) on the casino affair:

SB Ventures has been granted right to clear, fill, and grade the aforementioned property between Le Repaire and le Cours Vendôme.

send a message to the territorial council, this email reaches them all...conseil.territorial@comstbarth.fr

let them know your feelings about a casino or gambling club or whatever it might be...

Hi Ellen,

just wondering if you email your opinions to the officials, about their politics and the way to conduct it, each time you visit a place on vacation ? :)

I applaud Ellens attempt to gather a support base..i really do...

but as a full time resident of a resort town myself - I agree with you...when second home owners and "frequent visitors" write in their opinions on OUR matters, it mostly rubs the people in charge the wrong way....my wife sits on the planning board for our resort and she tells me all the time letters and emails from non resident outsiders carry little to no weight on their decisions on issues regarding the resort, or the the way they vote on an issue...

which is why I stay completely out of the politics of St Barts ....its not my issue....I dont live there...its theirs....decide what you want to do, and who you want to be, and the consumer will then decide what he/she wants to do based on that......thats the way this game is played

I understand this perfectly Mike, and have no horse in the race. But, I do think that if a resort/island/whatever wants to get a true read on a venture as big as this they would do themselves a big favor by taking some of what the "tourists or vacationers" that come and spend their dollars have to say. It would most likely not make a huge difference, in the long run, as to what decision is right or wrong and that's kind of sad ..."build it and they will come" comes to mind. It's all about making the $$ and gaining income for the island, or city, or whatever. I agree that certain ventures come with a price that's not measured in dollars and cents...casino attract some trouble. Again...IMHO.

yes but you are asssuming they want the current demographic tourist...how do you know they arent trying to attract a totally different clientele or build a base on a specific clientele who currently visits now but is in the minority..

these are things you and I dont know....we aren't privy to the "agenda"

You're right, we don't know. IMHO if it ain't broke, don't fix it (SBH)....but what do I know?? I hope they don't bring a casino to the island, but if they do, I won't go there but might have trouble getting a villa/room when I want one. Not to mention prices?? It's anyone's guess...roll the dice :nightmare:

are you kidding me?

its one of my favorite lines of all time

it explains almost everything!...LOL

thanks Mike,

that's exactly the point.
Ellen seems to be in the "against" camp. Which is a perfectly respectable opinion to me.

As for myself, if you want my opinion (yeah...nobody asked, I know) : I don't really care, except a few details :
the project seems to be a "cercle de jeux" e.g. : Aviation Club de france, in Paris. Far away from Las vegas, or even SXM casinos, with mafia, hookers & dope.

Another point I agree with you on : it's a local decision.
I've discoverd Morisville VT. a few years back, which I felt in love with.
It wouldn't come to my mind to give my opinion(s) to the council, on their way to administrate the city.
Also, I'm pretty sure, my opinion is not going to weigh heavily if I threaten them not to come anymore because I don't like the new parking project.

But it's a free world,
St Barth Collectivité's email addresses are public, and everybody is free to express his opinion.

2 more last little things :
I have nothing to see with the casino project, i don't know any of the people involved in, and again : I don't really care.

The officials have planned to enlarge my pen.... hum.... my road access. It does not suit to me, please email : conseil.territorial@etc......
