That casino idea is back. Just up the hill from Le Repaire

The casino deal would probably be a deal breaker for us..the straw to break the camels back...

but we ve been tettering close to the edge of moving on from SBH for a few years now so it wouldnt exactly be a shocker...

it appears fairly obvious to me that St Barts eventually wants to be the San Tropez of the Caribbean..and most in this forum would probably love all that hoopla and the see and be seen scene, and big ticket opulent meals etc and so on....and so in one way, the people have already spoken and the island is trying to accommodate....and who can blame them???>....but who knows??...it will be interesting to see it all develop

Hi Ellen,

just wondering if you email your opinions to the officials, about their politics and the way to conduct it, each time you visit a place on vacation ? :)

No, but a lot of people on the forum come here several times a year and have done for many many years, they have contributed greatly to the economy, they are not first time visitors, and others own homes, and all should have the right to say how they feel...

PS... I didn't say which camp I am in, I have not expressed an opinion for or against. I also did not suggest the forum folks only send negative opinions. I suggested they submit their views, which could be yea or nay... those who are in favor could say so as well as those who are not...

Ellen...all for sure have the right to say how they feel ...no argument...but they are just tourists and have no real stake in the ultimate destiny of the island.....unlike you and Rosemond and all the citizens of the island..its up to you guys to decide where you go and who you become.....not us.

and I am 100% in your camp with how you feel

hey Ellen, which one is the answer finally ?
As you know, engligh is not my native language, and so, it takes me some time to write, if you change your posts while I'm writing, I have to do all my homework again...

Forget the first one, inappropriate, go with the second one and please delete the first one from you post, I changed it for a reason!

and to conclude here, Ellen we agree (isn't it a wondeful new ?) , as I mention to my post #60 : "everybody is free to express his opinion."

Does anyone know the scale of the proposal? The space between Repaire and Vendome isn't too large. And, considering how valuable the space is, it's going to be developed for something. Are we talking a 3 story casino? 5 story? Will it be a 24 hour deal, or have opening restrictions? Has there been discussion of occupancy limits? Just card games? Roulette? Slots? There are a lot of possible variables. I don't gamble, so unless it changes the character of the island in some drastic manner, it wouldn't have any effect on me. Does anyone actually know what it is, exactly, that's being proposed? (Or, if my French was better, would I already know the answers to my questions?)

Eddie- I've come to the conclusion that there is nothing I can do so I'll wait and see. Debating it at this point is a nice exercise but I haven't seen any concrete proposal. Anything else is conjecture.

That's my point, Andy. Until we know, no sense getting our panties in a bunch. It could be on a very small scale, which would, most likely, preclude it from becoming a gambling mecca.

One gaming hall won't make it like St Martin and the harbor and airport aren't getting any bigger so why is there a tumult here?

They'll probably insist on long pants, so I won't be visiting. Other than the probability that it will further screwing up parking, I'm not particularly concerned.

speaking of parking maybe Laurent can confirm this but I heard that the parking lots at the port, across from the airport, and across from Tom Beach/La Plage will all become paid parking sometime soon... true or false?
