Do folks in Saint-Barth make rhum arrangé with a rhum agricole base (like Trois Rivières) or with a rhum industriel base ?
Interesting to know, Ellen . . . thanks! I also am delighted to know that Ginette is sometimes known as "Gigi" . . . when I went past her place on a couple of recent occasions (thanks to that annoying detour at la Tourmente), I was confused by a new sign bearing "Gigi" as the name.I think Ginette of Chez Ginette aka "Gigi" fame uses all rhum agricole. As mentioned here before she won three gold medals for various flavored rums in Paris last year - Le Journal de St Barth
and she uses all kinds of local fruits for her unusual flavors.
Had lunch at Jojo in 2011 on our honeymoon. We had lunch there as we were trying to get our bearings right as this was our very first visit to SBH (actually the first restaurant we ate at.... probably had something to do with the huge sign they have). I have vague memories of that lunch.... nothing negative. While we have been back to the island a few times since we have never made it back to Jojo.Rhum vanille is my favorite part of dining in SBH (you know, after the food..) But even more interesting is the little blue cup from Trois Rivières in Martinique! I was there in 1980 (and probably after that, too), and rum from Martinique is so much fun!! I've never been to Jojo's, so that would be on the list to try!
