$17,000
A BARRY good guess!$17,000
I think there’s a mistake here. $17K/ year??? ($1,400/month.) There would be people crawling & begging & bribing for this deal! I cannot imagine — if it can be found! — a one bedroom/bath apartment rental for less than 3K Euros/month.$17,000

Oh yes! Sorry to have misunderstood. Not a day goes by without an inquiry to me from local friends who are seeking accommodations. I guess that I no longer distinguish between Dave Barry’s humor & reality. It’s quite sad.$17,000 is a reference to humor columnist Dave Barry who used to write for the Miami Herald. After visiting St Barth he wrote a column saying that everything costs $17,000 on St Barth.

Key to a great marriage! You found the secretHi Amy,
We are having the time of our lives. Each year we grow closer to each other. Well at least I feel we do, Anita might feel differently. As I say, we tolerate each other well![]()
Miss spending time with you and Phil.
Consider minimum 2000 € monthly per room, for a very basic house. If this is a comfortable ( not too luxury, though) one, with pool, andI am planning to move to Saint Barth. Could you please advise how much it realistically costs to rent accommodation for a year, and where I should look for housing?
Thank youConsider minimum 2000 € monthly per room, for a very basic house. If this is a comfortable ( not too luxury, though) one, with pool, and
maybe some nice views, it would be more, around 10000 € for a three bedrooms, it can be even more expensive according to the size and location.
I have lived 6 years there in the 2010’s and rented a 5 bdr villa, so some experienceThank you![]()
I didn’t realize the $17K was a Dave Barry reference and thought it was being quoted as an actual rental figure. That explains the joke a lot better.$17,000 is a reference to humor columnist Dave Barry who used to write for the Miami Herald. Pre-lease conditions should include independent home inspection to ensure the property is safe and free of moisture-related issues.
A few years ago, i got one and had to go through mold inspection in altamonte springs after a month, that's why it's better to do first.

It is wild - you have to think it will reach a tipping point? But maybe the bubble won't actually burst and prices will just keep going up, up, and up, (ie ~$56 for a negroni) and people will just keep paying? You'd have to think at some point there's a cap to all this. But it seems that restaurant prices specifically never ever go down. Market dynamics will decide. Just hope I don't get priced out!when I was managing a villa , one of our maids from france, she was young and had 2 jobs here on the island, and her husband worked at toiny as one of the waitstaff. she and her husband paid 2200 euros a month for a very small apartment in flamands, one bedroom with a view of the road, it did have air conditioning. but I was thinking how anyone would want to pay this just to live and work here? we paid her 20 euros an hour and she worked 3 to 4 hours a day. the rest of the time she worked for what is now cheval blanc. this was around 2019.
As one of the fourms most ardent Negroni enthusiasts, I would never pay $56 for a Negroni. It is wild - you have to think it will reach a tipping point?
