How many people on this site remember the early times on St.Barts.

The first time I tried to get to St Barts I called the commuter airline from the states (can't remember which one) and could not understand a word they were saying. I decided to fly to St Martin and figure it out from there. The agent at the desk in St Martin said gruffly there are X number of seats on the plane and there are X number of people on standby and you are not one of them. OK then. Now what? There was a German fellow wearing little blue Granny glasses lurking by the counter and he approached me and said "You Vant to go to St Barts?" I nodded and he said "I have a plane!" I asked how much and he said "Same price." OK then! We flew over and unloaded the bags right on the runway. He said he lived on the Island and whenever I needed a ride to give him a call. His name was Fredrick and for the next few years I just kept his card in my wallet and had a plane waiting for me whenever I wanted one. I called him Air Fredrick. Does anybody else remember him?

How about the really old places like Au Bon Coin in Lorient, Le Relais in Petite Cul de Sac, Le Flamboyant in Grand Cul de Sac, Les Lauriers in Gustavia, La Veille France in Corossol, La Maison Blanche between Corossol and Colombier, Chez Joe in Corossol and/or Gustavia....
We are on the same “anniversary time schedule “, but I joined in 2004, the year I retired, so both good choices

Perhaps they were all gone by 20 years ago, but they make up some of my earliest memories of St Barth !

One of my favorite memories is the cabaret dinner theater that Jean-Marie Riviere would host at La Banane. The details are a little fuzzy now, for several reasons, but I will never forget him prancing around shining the old fashioned spotlight with the big square battery on the performers and him lip syncing New York New York into a gravy strainer just before the Conga line formed and everyone ended up in the pool.

Those were really fun nights!

Trying to remember the name of a restaurant that closed years ago. It was in St. Jean (I think) but on the opposite side of the street from the beach. Not affiliated with a hotel, but it had a pool, and the dining tables were set around it. Not that it helps, but the last time that I ate there Tom Hanks was at the neighboring table. Any ideas?

Depending on the year, it was either Topolino or Cups. It was located across from Filao, where the ER administrative building is now located.
