Le Toiny Beach Club

. . . never lets me down!

The number of restaurants is dwindling where I want to spend time (so many reasons . . . I think that prior posts speak for themselves). In my current visit I’m -- so far -- finding comfort in the stalwarts. Lunches have been oriented to . . . beach . . . ambience . . . service . . . known comfort . . . breeze. As the title says, today it was Le Toiny.

There rarely has been a “miss” here, & today was a winner on all cylinders!

To begin, let me tell you that the commonly accepted way to the restaurant is via a sophisticated jeep-like vehicle (off-road Mercedes or similar) from the Hotel’s reception area . . . in an exciting, eye-catching ride down a steep, winding hill, to the Hotel’s elegant beachfront venue. Memorable, especially for first time visitors. As a frequent guest, however, I prefer my routine of parking in the Toiny beach lot, from which I walk — flip flops in hand — along the beach . . . in-&-out of the waves, to the restaurant. The walk used to often lead me past Jimmy Buffett, hangin’ in the water . . . waiting to claim a wave. Always a big wave from him if he spotted me. I very sadly missed seeing him today.

Lunch was exquisitely elegant — in the menu, service, & serenity of venue. How can one think anything else,

My guest & I shared the ”poulpette” as a starter . . . tender & flavorful, with yummy side tastes of larger plates

Sensing the same taste buds (!), each of us also ordered the Beach Club‘s ”signature” lobster salad.

Crisp, really fresh lettuces with slivers of fresh tropical fruit, avocado slices, crunchy nuts & berries, lots of Langouste, & a delicate citrus vinaigrette dressing. On the beach in St. Barths . . . enjoying lunch with a dear friend . . . a perfect meal . . . a light breeze blowing across us. As Amy, another dear friend, is wont to say, “Aahhh, St. Barths!”

My friend & I — rarely satiated in the revelry of a splendid afternoon together — succumbed to a delicious chocolate “bar” with peanuts. Though each of us, in full-fledged food decadence, was unable to finish it.

What more can be said . . . except that the Le Toiny Beach Club ”suite” of food, setting, ambience, service, & memories is an exquisite St. Barths afternoon. As neighborhood — & otherwise personal — friends, it’s my great pleasure to have Hotel Le Toiny — & the Beach Club — among my most special island venues, where everything “clicks!”

. . . hope to see you there!

looking forward to Mr Dennis' inimitable reporting on the newly rebranded La Kala
. . . also on the beginning of season status report on the walking conditions from Marigot to GCdS

Good morning Dennis…how far is the walk from Toiny Beach parking? A great experience for us historically has been to park across from Pearl and walk the beach sans shoes to Eden Roc.

I’m not very good at measuring distances . . . childhood vision problems causing me to have little capacity for depth perception. I’d say, however, that the walk probably is about the length of a football field . . . probably also comparable to the walk from Pearl Beach to Eden Rock. Note, however, that, unlike St. Jean, the Toiny beach is — in some portions — very uneven & filled with well-worn & rounded coral rocks.

. . . suspect that I won’t get to La Kala on this visit. I have an impression that former management still is running it . . . simply re-branded because of lousy reputation it developed in 2022 / 2023 “season.” For this reason, & the fact that its service & quality reliably declined, IMO, on a steady basis — week after week — last season, I’m not eager to return . . . especially when nearby alternatives are enticing.

With respect to walking conditions from Marigot to GCdS, no change in recent years, except that the addition of 4 / 5 new homes immediately along the beach side of the road has significantly eliminated the narrow “dirt” path that formerly offered a fragment of walking security. As a result, I am very alert to oncoming traffic . . , which, fortunately, generally is accustomed & attentive to pedestrians in the area.

Current work on this road — don’t know its official designation (help Kevin?) — is nearing conclusion between top of the Camaruche hill & Mono Shop at Marigot village. It’s going to be a “regular boulevard,” including with a sidewalk (albeit, narrow). It appears that the subject roadwork (& creation of adjacent sidewalks) will re-commence next Spring, at end of the 2023 / 2024 “season” . . . running from the Mono Shop to, I expect, the first road to the coast past the turnoff for Sereno / Ti Corail / La Kala / Le Barthélemy. The latter ending point for the next stage of construction would seem to be logical break point . . . among reasons for this conclusion — it would open a smooth, scenic entry to Le Barthélemy that presently is not utilized.
