Wifi Access in Gustavia

I'm pretty sure there's free for the general public wifi in Gustavia at the plaza/gazebo area at the "bottom of the U of the harbor. No? The wifi at Le Repaire is good, as is the wifi at la Cantina and Le Carre as Kevin mentioned----- for customers.

Linda---- thanks for the tips! And, yep----JEK, I learned that some years ago---- I never take it out of airplane mode while there----- the Verizon fees are really high. And then I hook up to whatever wifi is around.

Im still wondering if it's possible to rent an iPhone or something for the one week, and get a 3G data plan.....that way I can use it where I'm staying, and not have to go find a wifi spot, or go into the main house.

I used to stand next to Tom Beach when I was staying at the villa next door. Great wifi there

A five euro phone card which will give you HOURS of calling is available at the gas station in St. Jean if you don't want to buy a phone.

Wifi is also available at Le Select & at Bar d'Oubli ….. obviously for customers. Some years ago when villas didn't have it I also "used" the wifi at Kiki Mo.

I'll be closest to Tom Beach/la Plage ---- but the wifi there is terrible. It works occasionally if you're at the inside corner of the bar.

Go to dauphin get a chip don't worry. Best deal on island
Ok, but I still need the unlocked smartphone.... I have a cell phone for the island----that's cheap and easy. But I need email and internet---so a 3G plan with a smartphone /iPhone. Or I'll just rack up charges on my Verizon plan.....

Oh! So the iPad I have with Verizon is unlocked???--- I can put the Dauphin chip in? That would be ideal!!!

One detail, you iPad must be cellular enabled, i.e. you can connect w/o WiFi at home.

GENIUS!!
Ok, I have Vonage on my business lines. I have a Skype set up so that when a client calls my lines it will ring my Skype number on my Ipad Skype app. If Dauphin SIM gives me internet, I should be all set. The only question is what settings I should put in the Ipad - I only want Dauphin for data.

I guess if I take out the Verizon IM and replace it with the Dauphin SIM its a non issue - I dont have to worry about crazy Verizon charges..never even knew there was a VErizon SIM there.

BBT :up::up::up:

Mick, you'll have to talk to Dauphin, but it still may not be cost effective for you. My Dauphin SIM cost me €25, or about $37. They've change their multi-week program, and it now costs me €35 for 2-weeks or so of data, a combined cost of €60/$81. I own the SIM, so it's just the weekly charge for me now. You might be able to get a good signup deal with Dauphin, which would preempt any of my experiences.
