Which restaurant for lunch?

Their point was the view, not the food.
To each his own. Some are take out, some are sit in, all good.

We are going for a 1 day trip from sxm and would like to have a great lunch. Will be renting a car so we are wide open to suggestions. We are not seafood lovers. Is there a "not to miss" spot for lunch? I also plan on having breakfast when we arrive so please offer suggestions on that too! Thanks so much for the help!

The poster's question was lunch. I'm guessing they will get on-island after breakfast.

might want to check the next to last sentence.

Depending on the day of week, Sunday can make for a lot of controversy. But to each there own. As far as a not miss, I have always loved Sand Bar at Eden Rock. It depends on your mood. Do you want an expensive burger or a not sooo expensive burger?

My suggestion to maximize time on island is to grab the rental car, drive to Kiki é Mo in St. Jean for a "quickie" breakfast of some of the most delicious quiche on the island and a cappuccino. This location affords one the opportunity to "see" St. Jean beach to determine if staying for the day is what one wants to do. Then one can hop back into the car and get started on the rest of the day.

I like the idea of possibly lunching at Santa Fe and then driving on down to have beach time at Gouverneur OR lunching at Gloriette and spending time on Grande Cul de Sac OR lunching at Eden Rock then spending time on St. Jean beach.

Eve, that's okay...I'm with you on Le Repaire...there is a special ambiance in there....not the greatest view but, really good food...right in town where there is some action...and you'd be surprised what you might see from there!

Thank you all so much for the suggestions. It is really good to have all these suggestions. I am going to print this out to take with us and then check them out once we get there. How far is IDF, for example and Eden Rock from the ferry? I have no concept of the size of sbh compared to sxm or the amount of time it takes to drive all around the island. I should have posted that I would like a nice view with great food. I also plan to do a little shopping while we are there....just can't resist! Thank you again.

St Barth is an 8 square mile Island, so nothing is more than 15-20 minutes away from wherever you are. Eden Rock is about 10 minutes from the Ferry dock, and IDF maybe 15 minutes. There is no traffic, compared to St Martin.

St Barth is 8 square miles with about 25 miles of roads. Barring contruction, it doesn't take much more than 15-20 minutes to get from the Colombier lookout at one end of the island, to Le Toiny on the other end of the island.

The main shopping area is Gustavia. There are also a few shops near the airport, and others past the Eden Rock hotel in St Jean. You'll often find a boutique in some of the larger hotels.

Since you have a rental car, I would take the time to drive around the entire island to get an overview, and see some beautiful vistas. I think the first time we drove the island it took a little over an hour, and was well worth it to help get our bearings and see which areas we wanted to explore further.

My husband and I were on island about two weeks ago. My first suggestion for a place for lunch is La Plage at the Tom Beach Hotel on St. Jean beach. The food we had was really good (I recommend the beef carpaccio and the black truffle risotto), the vibe is good, and then there is the entertainment of watching the planes from the nearby runway. It's a little annoying that they charge for beach chaises even when you have lunch there, but the ambience and lunch were so nice, we went there twice in one week.

My second favorite place is the Isle de France hotel on Flammands beach. The food is very good, and the beach chaises are not charged for if you have lunch. Flammands is a really beautiful beach, and I recommend the tables in the sand by the beach for lunch.

A third option, if you don't require beach services is lunch at Grain de Sel, which is located near the parking area for Saline beach. We had two very good salads there (one goat cheese and one jerk chicken), and it is convenient if you want to go to Saline beach.

We also went to La Gloriette on Grand cul de Sac beach, and the food was pretty good. Although we thought the food was a bit better last year, we may have just caught it on a bit of an off day, and we wouldn't hesitate to try it again. Beach chaises are not charged for if you have lunch. The beach is pretty small, but the views are very pretty. It is fairly windy, hence the popularity of wind based water sports there.

We went to Do Brazil a year ago and just had an okay experience (even under what might have been the former management), so didn't go back this year with all the other wonderful options to choose from on island. It is close to Gustavia, but since you will have a rental car, I would go explore.

As for breakfast, we always get pastry and croissants from Petite Colombe, and eat at the villa, so can't offer any advice on a sit down breakfast restaurant. They also have good lunch take-out options available at breakfast time if you want to go to a beach without services and take your own food.

P.S. If this is your first time driving on the island, the roads are narrow (but you will get used to it), four-wheel drive is very helpful, and it's good to fold in your side mirrors when you parallel park. Try to get to the scenic overlook at Pointe Colombier- it's breathtaking.

Our best lunches on St Barths have been at Wall House for Frenchness & ambiance and Do Brazil for atmosphere and style. Both have great food. I would recommend a drive around the island with a brief stop at Saline and Flamands to see them and see if you have time for a drink on St Jean before going back to SXM. I would wager that after one day on St Barths you'll be back very soon.
