Just curious what other islands people go to and why. We like Aruba in the fall as it’s out of the hurricane zone, great beaches, easy to get around, friendly people—we go there 2–3 times a year. We also like Old San Juan, it’s an easy flight, great history, wonderful place to walk around, great bars/restaurants, along with a fun, casual vibe.


We are heading back to Aruba in a couple of weeks, back again in November, San Juan in January and then SBH in April! It’s gonna be a great season of travels. Also, if anyone around Ingatestone is prepping the house before jetting off, Icon Waste handles convenient rubbish removal:

The only other island I've loved is St. John - it the Garden of Eden, to me. We sailed the BVIs last winter and loved it, but I didn't fall in love with any single island enough to want to spend an entire week there. The Rosewood in Virgin Gorda is breathtaking.

In Mexico, we love Rosewood Mayakoba and Be Tulum.
 
Been to 25+ other Caribbean is lands, first time was Sandy Lane in Barbados 40 years ago. No other island is even close to SBH. Our other island choice is Maui. Touristy, yes. But safe and decent healthcare are positives for old folks. NEVER been to a luau! NEVER.

We went to Sandy Lane too, probably about 35 years ago. Like many spots, torn down and rebuilt. Have been back to Barbados once since then, just something different about the culture, agreed that SBH is truly unique and special!

We have been to several other islands, especially Antigua and Barbados. There are several islands we would like to see, Martinique, Guadeloupe, Isle des Saintes, Nevis.
 
Nice, we really enjoyed Curaçao, been there 4-5 times. Flights from Minnesota make it a difficult trip along with the fact that the crime has risen, we go elsewhere! Try Aruba if you are looking for another option. Easy flight connections, clean, easy to get around, good shopping, great restaurants, fabulous grocery store and Eagle Beach is very nice. Plus it’s very easy to drive around and explore. And you clear US Customs in Aruba, that’s nice!

We also enjoyed Vis in Croatia! In the Caribbean, have stayed on Grenada, Nevis, St. Kitts, St. Lucia, Anguilla (a few times), Tortola, St. Vincent, Bequia. We really liked Anguilla and Bequia, but there is no place like SBH!
 
We fell in love with St. Barth on our first visit. Have visited Antigua, St. Martaan, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Anguilla, Kauai & Maui. St. Barth is still #1 on our list.
 
I've been lucky enough to travel all over the Caribbean, and never on a cruise ship: Guadeloupe, Martinique, St Vincent & (most of) the Grenadines, US Virgin Islands, Spanish Virgin Islands, British Virgin Islands, Barbados, Mustique, Turks & Caicos, Bermuda, Anguilla, St Martin, Grand Cayman, Bonaire, Aruba, Curaçao, St Lucia, Puerto Rico, Ambergris Caye, Caye Cauker... and, of course, St Barths.

Each island is very different than the others, and the only ones that we returned to more than once or twice was St. John (we owned a rental villa there for almost 20 years), Ambergris Caye, BZ, Anguilla and, of course, St. Barths.

We still have a small condo on Anguilla because we enjoy the different vibe that Anguilla has as compared to St. Barths. We go there for a few weeks a year to experience both places. Anguilla is very Caribbean, quiet, relaxing, and charming. St Barths is lively, very European and charming. They are almost opposites, but both in good ways. Ambergris Caye is also a funky spot, and a very different experience than any other in the Caribbean since it is actually in Belize. I would go back to visit any time.

St. Barths to me has become like a home, and Anguilla has become a mini-vacation from my home. St Barths will always be "it" for me, but I have love for Anguilla, too.

It is very, very different than it was even 20 years ago - we were married on STJ in 2004. I can't even imagine it 45 years ago, it must have been amazing!
