What's a little nudity among friends?

Well thanks for conjuring that image, IV. You nekkid in the surf at Saline singing like Celine Dion. I think I'm going to need therapy now . . . or at least beaucoup de vin.

I have to say, though, that I've had this concern myself. We have some friends who we've talked about traveling with to SBH. The husband is German and those Germans take off their clothes at the drop of a hat. So I'm sure that I'll see more of him than I ever really wanted to. And to make matters worse, he's 6'5" and built like a Panzer and I'm 5'7" . . .

Eric: Don't worry. I dont sing (can't carry a tune). It is a cryptic reference to a rather humorous incident related to us all here a few months back by a St Barts regular...

You all are just killing me! I'm crying I'm laughing so hard. We are just 11+ hours from departing for our first visit - I will carry these images of you as we enjoy our time in paradise!

Our mantra: C'est La Vie

Re: Silent nekkid majority

or is it nekkid silent majority? Hmmmmm....

Judging from my occasional visits to the lovely Saline Beach, there are more folks willing to be seen nekkid than heard in this forum on the subject of their nekkidity.

Hi Work...
You are right...most do adjust to the freer, more European attitude towards nekkidity on St. Barth. Over the years we have travelled with family and friends and found that a forthright and honest conversation up front, where our "likes" are exposed (purposely chosen word) allows everyone to make their own choices. We sunbathe nude or topless, depending on the beach. If you want to come with us to "our" beach, be prepared for something you may not have seen before...and don't stare. Or go off to your own beach with your Victorian bathing costume. Your choice.

When our kids were young, 25 years ago, it took them a little while to get used to seeing mom in a way they had not seen her before (about 10 minutes...then the whole thing fades into the background).

Everyone's attitude on nekkidity (I like that word) is different...but most people, when they see that it is natural and not lascivous, get used to the idea. It seems, though, that many Americans are a bit hung-up on the subject. This thread would not even exist on a BB of mostly Europeans.

No other way to swim or sunbath. How I hate the feel of that constricting piece of cloth(s).

You are guys are a riot!

I agree. Whatever one wants to call nudity, America will not have maturity and freedom until we no longer read about it as unique on forums and boards.

..what a great way to start the week!!!! thinking about being nekkid on the beach in St Barths...share the beach..share the wealth..it is very interesting when you meet people by accident..got to love it.

This sounds like a perfect example of not to tell your friends what a wonderful time you have in St.Barts

So true as my wife is now thinking a ski trip might have been a better choice. Just kidding. In all seriousness, though, I appreciate all the insight and stories and I think I like the split the baby approach to beaching it. I am still a little apprehensive about a St. Barts trip with friends because it has always been a special place just for us but they are great friends and I am sure it will be fun to show them our favorite place.

Then you have to deal with the Hot Tub Issue where everyone wants to pop in the jacuzzi on the deck of your chalet. What do you say in that situation?

"Okay" would probably work...

if you re a typical ski bum you say..."off with the skivvies...fire up the bong....pop open a cold one and get your ass in here!"....LOL

oh yeah - and please leave the lights on....LOL

This is where the villa comes into play. If your wife is that squeamish about nudity among the friends on the beach, the villa pool is the perfect place to indulge. Not saying that the beach isn't the first choice but the villa pool provides plenty of privacy and if you also have a great view, that experience is not too shabby either. It will do in a pinch LOL.....it is better than no nudity at all.

yeah but if the sun is out that means technically the "lights are on" and we re back to square one if you are squeamish...*tongue firmly in cheek*

P.S. I know what you mean about not wanting to talk SBH up among friends. We talk it up and then one couple or the other says something like "you guys are making this sound so great....what if.....". Then they start inquiring with us about traveling down and getting a villa together and that is the point where my husband and I usually get very quiet and look at each other and think that we may have created a monster. It has happened a couple of times. So far we are ok. Other than our friends who we enjoy traveling with (and the ones who turned us on to SBH initially) we are happy that no one else has pushed real hard to join us. Yes, it is a give and take as we very much enjoy the company of friends but the issues being discussed here sometimes bring the point home that privacy is more important when in SBH. There is something about being nude on the beach....and no one else on earth( that at least we know) knowing about it. The people who really enjoy wanting to share the experience with a crowd generally wind up somewhere like Orient Beach in St. Martin. St. Barth is more about peace and quiet. Not that you don't see friends sunbathing au natural in St. Barth. You do. But it is just done in a more quiet way.

Cheri...if I may borrow one of Nancy Reagens pet lines during her personal crusade against drugs

JUST SAY NO!!!!!

if they are real friends they will understand......if they are not, they wont and then...who cares>?

Well........I don't have the answer for that one. LOL

Just make sure your wife covers up the "Property of Hells Angels" tattoo on her butt, and you're good to go.....
