Welcome to the Forum

I've never understood responses such as, "use the search function". In the same amount of time, one can answer a question, or provide a link to an answer.
I'm also not bothered by seeing the same questions pop up every now and then. Sometimes the answers change (as with restaurants, shopping, and lodging). With other, non-changing, questions (beaches, hikes, etc.) they often trigger a memory which brings me back there. I enjoy that... :)

This site is the next best thing to being there. It's friendly there. It should be friendly here.

Eddie,I like your post! I especially like that we are trying to be friendlier and more welcoming while still be the leading edge in Island happenings.
for Forum Followers.
I applaud the moderators. Keep up the good work guys.

Eddie- newbie questions such as what villa shall we stay in or how do we get there requires the poster doing some research before an answer can be given. If I have an answer I always give it but if I don't I try and redirect. It's not as simple as you say.

How about just not responding?

let other, newer posters play every now and then.

Apparently you didn't read my post. I always try to help if I can. Oh and BTW- all this because some once in awhile poster gave a snarky response to a new poster?

Apparently you didn't read my post.

You don't always have to try to help.

Let others (newer visitors) respond and help.

All this because we want newer voices not the same dozen people replying to every question.

My suggestion to the other mods, and I'm only half kidding, is that after you hit a certain post count, you go on read only status.

It's groundhog day in here.

Your message is spot-on, JEK. Many people go out of their way to say "Welcome" when a new person posts; that is a great way to "shake hands" in cyberspace. And welcome them we should.....

. The bantering among many of our forum members is fun and amusing but I suspect may be confusing and off-putting to a newbie who doesn't "get" the inside-forum characterizations.... I have had new people comment to me privately that they are surprised by some of the hostility on the forum.

I'm also relatively certain that, while they may be new here they are probably participants in other forums IRL and understand the culture of same.
