Weird Theft

More petty thefts than ever, but what happened to friends on the weekend is beyond belief.Thieves took a wheel off their rental, at their villa,in the middle of the night, and left the car on its axle!Poor guy had already had somebody steal his glasses , and turn his lights on,to run down his battery,one night in Gustavia
Don't know how you protect against this stuff,but we all should be aware that its happening

The first theft was in January,in Gustavia
The wheel was taken off his daughter's rental Friday night,at a villa near Vitet
One was totally random mischief by kids,the second a carefully planned theft.Two different cars,weeks apart,no connection at all,but just indicative of changes here
Just coincidence it was the same guy

I have rented a villa in Vitet for my April trip. Should I be concerned about the area? Tim?

We have never felt threatened in that area..Vitet is paradise to us. But, you must use common sense in all areas. This does sound somewhat targeted to me.

My new scrabble game that was brought here just recently via my friend lucy, was taken while I was inside the rotisserie getting my morning pain au chocolate. Because of the way it closed and was portable with a handle in a plastic case, it looked like a briefcase.( the new diamond anniversary edition) It had not even been used, bet they were as disappointed as I was. I don't leave anything valuable in my truck or any other vehicle

Hate, hate, hate to see this sort of thing. One of the many good things about St Barth is the relatively low incidence of crime. So sad. It's nice to be warned and we will be more vigilant, but still . . . .
