Dan and I are in Tuscany, Italy for a couple of weeks. The last time Dan and I were in Pisa about 30 years ago the Leaning Tower was closed to tourists. Since that time the foundation has been reinforced and the angle of tilt slightly lessened. It is now open again and Jim climbed the almost 300 steps to the top of the world famous campanile. Not bad for a 75 year old with an aging artificial aortic heart valve and two replacement knees!IMG_20240807_110815.jpgIMG_20240807_122859.jpgIMG_20240807_122947.jpgIMG_20240807_123042.jpgIMG_20240807_123200.jpgIMG_20240807_123221.jpg

Thanks Jim & kudos to Dan for the high trek ! I never could have done this or taken the crowds...Enjoy your Tuscan time guessing there's some fine vino to taste in your futures !

If you are in the San Gimignano area and looking for a dinner spot, make a reservation at Fattoria Poggio Alloro. Family owned farm with an Amazing view, service and food and very reasonably priced. We also had some wine, olive oil and balsamic shipped home from there. Our favorite all around dinner of our June trip. The view of the Tuscan Hills with the towers of San Gimignano in the background with the lights coming on at night was incredible (I'll try to find a pic). It's a popular spot for tours from Florence during the day but at night it's quieter and great.

Thanks, Jim...we will be visiting San Gimignano...will check out your recommendation if we can.

Amazing towns perched above the sea, we visited Monterossa long ago on the Windsurf, along with Portofino, Camogli. The sapphire deep blue sea, all magical. Thanks for your pix & taking us along ! Enjoy the remainder of your time.
