Troublesome start to travel

Scheduled flight of this morning at 8 AM from JAX to MIA was canceled last night about 9 PM. Bummer. Fortunately, my sharp travel agent (yes! they still exist!) quickly grabbed for me the last seat available on the 6:15 AM flight to MIA. Getting up at 3:30 was no fun . . . but I’m now on the runway, beginning another great migration. Do you feel the “tingle?” MIA to SJU coming up next at 10:30.

Great travel agents still do exist, and the few of us that have one believe that they are worth their weight in gold. Sadly, mine has now retired. I get by on my own, but it's not the same. Fortunately, I'm no longer traveling every few weeks either.

What’s travel like to SBH from your new home? Hoping to see you & Kate there very soon.

Similar to JAX, we are now traveling from a minor airport. That generally means a little pencil-tube of a plane to a big airport. I'm considering giving up on AA and switching to DL, just to get away from the pencil-tube, even if it means connecting thru ATL.

Thank you KevinS & cec1 for good words for travel consultants, unsung heroes for pulling rabbits out of hats for their clients ! After 28 years in the biz, I, too, retired. The time was right, no regrets, but wonderful career.

It hasn’t gotten a lot better.

Arrived safely to SJU. Successfully met friends & hung-out at Tradewind lounge for three hours. Then, unfortunately, owing to “weather” (i.e., torrential rain), our flight to SBH was canceled. So, here I am — as in my last trip to SBH — back at the Fairmont El San Juan. Delicious dinner . . . warm, slightly humid evening . . . and now up for 6:45 AM shuttle to the airport. Tradewind has arranged an 8 AM flight for us.

It could have been worse! Passengers on the plane that departed ahead of our scheduled flight made it “over” SBH in, I’m told, a very bumpy flight. An attempted landing was aborted. Rain, lightening, & darkness. After returning to SJU, folks on that plane also are here this morning, waiting for another 8 AM charter to SBH.

Tradewind, of course, can’t control the weather. Tradewind, however, is responsible for excellent “TLC” under these circumstances. Transportation to/from hotel / airport . . . luggage delivered . . . rooms arranged . . . special flights this morning . . . smiling, friendly, helpful staff. Kudos to TW for the care given to make the best of a bad situation.

Now . . . soon to board a flight. Thinking about breakfast on SBH. Maybe Pearl Beach? Sounds pretty good right now!

Yesterday it rained very hard for most of the afternoon and was very windy. Not a good day for a landing.

Météo France has weather warnings posted until 5PM on Sunday, but on the webcam I just saw a Tradewind flight land smoothly, with a rainbow in the background.

As to yesterday's flight which returned to SJU, I do respect a pilot who knows when to say no.

What an adventure!
Hoping, as you read this, you are safe and sound on the ground in your happy place. :pray1:

At least you didn’t have this white stuff problem! Took me two days to get out of DFW.
