Quick recap of two weeks eating around the island.

Don’t judge me! I ate at the following restaurants in our two week trip over New Year.

Stayed at at Airbnb over New Year, then Christopher and Guanahani…

Lunches

La Cabane
Beefbar
Nao
Rivyera plage
Sand Bar
Nikki Beach
Sunday BBQ at Le Guanahani
Beachouse at Le Guanahani
Le Toiny Beach Club
Ti Corail

Dinners

Fish Corner (NYE)
L’Isola
Skybar
Ocean Club
Zion (twice)
Rivyera
Sayolita
Bonito
Papillon Ivre
Nyama
L’Esprit
Sereno

Breakfasts

Breakfasts are amazing at Le Guanahani which you can do even if you aren’t staying.

Croissants at Robuchon bakery were among the best I’ve had. Nowhere seems to do good coffee…

Best drinks

Really enjoyed drinks and live music at Arawak, will try the tapas next time.

Cocktails at Skybar, Beachouse (Le Guanahani) and Kinagawa are excellent. Also we always pop into Sayolita when dining nearby, drinks are well priced and it’s a fun place. Baz Bar was very quiet, it used to be so much fun.

Best Lunch

NAO, La Cabane and Le Toiny Beach Club for overall experience. Though they were generally all good. Hard to find a bad lunch in St Barth.

Best evening meal

Difficult to choose between Ocean Club, Zion and the special NYE dinner at Fish Corner. Zion’s set menu at 75 Euros is a steal. Would add a special mention to Nyama, just a lovely place and the staff were so friendly.

Best Dishes

Octopus - NAO
Lamb chops - Ocean Beach
Vitello Tonnata - Rivyera
Pork Kurobuta / Veal chop to share - Zion
Scallops with truffle - Fish Corner
Cheeseburger - Beef Bar
Parmesan ravioli with veal sauce - Papillon Ivre
Pigeon - L’Esprit

Other random stuff

We were asked for tips at Nikki, NAO and Bonito. Though our waitress at NAO was almost apologetic asking.

Best sushi on the island is at Skybar. Best lobster roll at Rivyera Plage. The burger at Beefbar was way better than expected, best I’ve ever had on the island.

Wine prices are ridiculous. I went down the rabbit hole of googling bottles and often 13-15 euro bottles were 80-90 euro on the list.

We discovered walking to restaurants for the first time. There are more pavements now so even at night it was more possible to walk 20/30 minutes each way.

Le Guanahani is incredible. I’ve stayed at all the best hotels on the island, and I think it’s the best one now.

Till the next trip!

Ben

Your report is so helpful and I doubt I could fit into my jeans after all that😂! We will attempt some of your culinary exploits, though! We have been Le Guanahani clients for 20 years, so we are in full agreement with you, as you have your own little “case” and exceptional services. The wine price markups are kind of legendary but when in Rome…or Nikki Beach..🤪..We did a Toiny hike past the beach club last December and it looked beautiful; reminded us a bit of Le Guanahani on the beach, so that might happen. I don’t know the Skybar (love Sushi) or that L’ Atelier had a bakery but I have a doctorate in Croissant-eating😋 and I am now intrigued! Our first go-around at Zion was fascinating but uneven but it was when they first opened so perhaps they deserve another chance; the chef himself was so nice, and our former Guanahani chef, Philippe, was there that night and seemed very appreciative. Many thanks for your very comprehensive report! Less than a week to go😊😍!

DM, check Le Daily Robuchon, on the back side of Robuchon, in the former Pipiri Palace/Galawa location.

Agree 100% with Parmesan ravioli with veal sauce - Papillon Ivre - Wow the explosion in your mouth.

On the topic of servers asking for tips, I think it’s important to distinguish the situation where a waiter / waitress says, when presented with a credit card, something like, “If you want to leave a tip on your card, it has to be added before I make a charge on the card.” I know this sometimes occurs, & I don’t view it as necessarily asking for a tip.

I would have to disagree with you on that! We all know how it works.

Dinner at Sayolita? How was that? For “best Vitello Tonnato,” try Al Mare Restaurant at Le Sereno on your next trip . . . pretty extraordinary!

Sayolita was a very casual dinner… had a quesadilla and some tacos. They have improved their menu from a few years ago. We liked it but it was post a Nikki lunch so maybe my senses weren’t at their best!

We had the Vitello Tonnato at Al Mare - also good. The Rivyera one is a cooked one as a main course, taken from the chefs two star restaurant in France. A veal fillet, with a warm tuna sauce… it really worked.

I went to the gym nearly every day so got away with just an extra 1kg around the waist! 🤣

Unusual preparation for Vitello Tonnato — glad that you enjoyed it!

My sons learned about 'cow tipping' from local country boys while we were family vacationing in Highgate Springs, VT at the Tyler Place. I don't know if my city boys ever got to put that country skill to use any other time or place

Yes, we are gym rats also and Le Guanahani has a great gym with beautiful equipment! We will be there before breakfast every day, as you know what they have there for breakfast ...😊

Pascale is the president of the CTTSB, in charge of addressing these abuses. If you were to report these incidents I think she would act on them. It's the only way this sort of thing will be stopped.
Two years ago after a wild Sunday at Nikki my very drunk SIL found that Nikki added a 20% gratuity to his cc. I contacted Ellen and we were able to get that credited back. Bonito doesn’t surprise me. They always strong arm us. Things haven’t changed.
