The Great Cheese steak Debate

Re: The last word

Miker, I think that Genesee is from upstate New York, and Schmidt's was bought out by one of the big brewing companies.

Nonetheless Philly has become one of the country's premier beer towns. Yuengling goes head to head for local sales with Bud and Miller. There are several very good local microbreweries. And Belgian beer is hot here thanks to some popular Belgian style beer halls. Have you tried Delirium Tremens from Belgium? That's good stuff too . . .

Re: The last word

yeah Belgium style brewed beer is hot here too...we have two beers - Fat Tire and Blue Paddle that are locally Belgium style brewed ,which are far and away the most popular beers in our local watering holes....both are very good....I haven't tasted the Delerium beer....

Re: The last word

Yuengling is actually brewed in Pottsville, PA which is a small town about 100 miles from Philadelphia. It's also the County Seat of Schuylkill County and the town the Molly Maguires were jailed in. (a little history lesson) Yuengling is "oldest continuously operated brewery" in the US. I grew up on the stuff, literally, as my family is from Pottsville although I grew up in suburban Philadelphia.

When I was kid, many years ago, there was a beer joint on virtually every corner in the town and, in fact, another brewery. It was Mt Carbon beer. I believe Yuengling's took them over in the early to mid-60's. At any rate, those of us who may have grown up with Yuengling beer most likely don't have the same feeling about it. I do, however, admit the lager is pretty good American lager beer.

Re: The last word

So who's organizing the Philly-SBH get-together? We can always meet at Monk's or Eulogy for mussels, frites and Belgian beer ... unless someone's springing for the $100 cheesesteak. ;-)

I had lunch at the Moshulu with my staff yesterday -- nice. And there's a very reasonable Kobe cheeseburger on the menu.

Re: The last word

Three pages of posts about Philly Cheese Steak. No doubt that folks are passionate about their regional foods. Of course, having had a Cheese Steak Sandwich in Philly, I can see why.

I guess if things get slow around here, I can always throw out bait such as:

1. I like the Pizza Hut deep dish pizza better than "New York Style"

or

2. Kansas City Dry ribs are better than Texas Brisket or North Carolina Vinegar Barbeque

or, for Miker...

3. You know, that Ragu really IS as good as homemade...

LOL

I will- just answer the Meetings in SBH or Elsewhere topic

Re: The last word

bringing Ragu or any of that crap into this house is grounds to be legally ( temporary insanity) shot in my house...or at least tossed over the balcony....LOL
