The Gibson

So, Mme Cassidain has developed a bit of an infatuation for The Gibson. My firm impression is that classic London Dry junipery Gin is not ideal. Any mixologists among us have a recommendation?

Btw, a recent thread upstairs made mention of generational change. The "Dirty" Martini has become semi-ubiquitous among our juniors, and it renders me ill to see such irreverence for the noble Martini. Far worse than the Vodka Martini, IMHO.

“Plymouth Gin is recommended for a Gibson, as it has a more citrus-forward taste than London Dry and fewer juniper-forward notes,” explains Chris Miller, director of food and beverage at The Knickerbocker in NYC. In other words, the relatively neutral profile of Plymouth lets the Gibson’s distinctive onion note take center stage.

Celebrate world martini day today by drinking one or three!

you have to admire someone who pickles onions for a Gibson.

I like to have a martini, two at the very most -- after three I'm under the table, after four, I'm under my host." Dorothy Parker
