dan,
My husband and I spent our honeymoon in Nevis in 1996, and returned there in 2004.
We stayed at the Oualie Beach Hotel the first visit, and the Four Seasons the second time.
In 2006, we celebrated our 10th anniversary in St Barths. This November will be our third trip to St Barths.
I loved our honeymoon on Nevis. It was a peaceful, laid back kind of vacation. We did some hiking, snorkeling, went horseback riding and took the ferry to St Kitts one day.
I have to say that exploring Nevis is not as easy as St Barths.
In 2004, I was in need of some serious r&r (I just sent my youngest off to college). We booked a stay at the Four Seasons in Nevis, and didn't leave the property once. It was the most relaxing vacation I've ever experienced. Their spa is gorgeous, the food is very good, and the service is outstanding.
After our first visit to St Barths in November 2006, we could not stop thinking about it.
My husband and I have been reading this forum, on a near daily basis since then. Just weeks after we returned home, we started planning our next visit. We are, like many others, completely hooked.
Honestly, if we spent our honeymoon in St Barths, we may have never gone to Nevis.
There is something very captivating about St Barths. There's always some reason to go back. The restaurant you didn't get to, the hike to Colombier or the tidal pools, or discovering the best place to watch the sunset.
My husband's answer to your question is, "it depends on what type of vacation you want".
On Nevis your options are limited, but the solitude is ideal for a honeymoon. St Barths offers more in terms of shopping, dining, and sightseeing, but still has it's own kind of tranquility.
One more thing. The beaches in Nevis don't come close to the beaches in St Barths.
Good luck and congratulations.
