St Barths departure COVID requirements?

Hello and apologies if this has been answered. I checked prior.

we have a 7 night trip planned to st barths via SXM in mid November from the USA. Can you all please confirm some steps required.

step 1: take and receive PCR test within 72hrs of arrival in st barths
step 2: fill out health declaration form with SXM
Unknown steps:
on the return to the USA through SXM
Is it required to take a test in st barths within 120 hours of sxm flight to transit through sxm?
if so, how long does it take to get results in st barths?
if so, are we then required to quarantine in our hotel in st barths until our results are provided?

my concern is it take 2-3 days to get the results and we are forced to spend half our trip in quarantine just to leave.

‘Please advise!

st. barths is no longer doing any covid tests upon arrival. You will not be able to get on a boat or plane without a negative results covid test to sbh.

the test will have to be administered within 72 hours of your arrival to st. barths.

sorry but that’s not what I asked.

I am asking about the requirements for departure from st barths through sxm back to the USA

You need a test to return through SXM. You don’t quarantine while awaiting results, but if you test positive, you can’t leave the island until testing negative or for 14 days. WIMCO has this info on their site.

thank you Tiffany. Do you know how long it takes to get those results?

My understanding is that you are correct on steps 1 and 2.

Because you will have been on SBH for less than 14 days, you will be required to re-test on SBH within 120 hours of traveling through SXM. Some who have done this say that it wasn't really required, but it is the letter of the requirement. Your hotel/villa agency can help you to schedule that test. Like your initial test coming from the US, there is no requirement to quarantine between the test date, the result date, and your travel date.

I have no info on the turnaround time between test and results on SBH. My guess that it is 24 hours or less, but I have no facts to back that up.

There is a new concern, and I don't know if/how it will impact you. SXM is proposing to require insurance, sold by them, to cover any COVID-related medical expenses, as well as medevac coverage. This requirement has not yet been voted on by the SXM government, and may or may not be enacted. If/until it is, I have no clue as to how it might impact Transit passengers.

I need to look for a quotable source, but my recollection is that France's requirement is now for a 7-day quarantine after a positive test result, not a 14-day requirement.

Yes, you will need to take another Covid nasal PCR test in SB to transit back to SXM as per their requirement.

We went for one week at the end of August. I didn’t realize that, and panicked a few days before we were supposed to fly back. It was stressful planning our trip there with the 72 hour guideline and it threw a loop before our trip home. Don’t panic.

The good news is that it was a easy fix. There is a lab in Gustavia that performs these tests daily (not sure about the weekends) between 2-3pm. The lab staff are quick and efficient. You don’t need to quarantine and you get the results within 24 hours....either by email or you can pick up a paper copy. We did that.

The bad news is that it about 125 euro...each. But, what are you gonna do? If you stay more that 7 days on SB you need one anyway. It’s a small price to help keep everyone safe.

We are returning mid December and plan to stay for 2 weeks. Now we know what to do. AND we plan to continue to follow all the guidelines to keep safe while we are there.

Hope this helps! Enjoy your vacation!

They make it tough don’t they. It’s a great thing because it makes you feel safe when you get there but also is concerning since so many things timing wise must line up.

thank you all for your help

According to wimco’s website.

[h=2]Staying for a While in St Barts? Then Get Re-Tested on Day 7[/h]Visitors who will be staying on the island more than 7 days are required to be retested on island, and then are required to self-quarantine in their villas or hotel rooms until they get the negative test result which confirms that they are not carrying the virus. The results will be sent to them via email or text – based on the info they give the testing center. Once they get confirmation of a negative test result, they are free to move about the island without restriction. Ask your villa rental agency or hotel reservations desk to make an appointment for you.

this part doesn’t seem to make sense to me as there are some contradicting messages in this thread?

Having just returned from SBH (and going back through SXM on my way back) and only having a trip of 5 days, I retested at the lab in Gustavia. Currently (and this seems to change daily) the testing hours are from 12-1. I had my results back by 4pm the day I took my test, delivered straight to my email. The actual cost I paid was 135,04 euro. At some point while you are on the island, check with the lab biopoleantilles.com. 0590 29 75 02.They had updated the hours the day after I arrived. When I got off the plane in SXM and went through immigration (or whatever it really is that they are doing there) I was asked for my Covid paperwork.

I would check with your agency. We are staying 7 nights in November through WIMCO. Was not told to quarantine after test to come home...we would have a test less than a week before in order to clear coming down. I don’t know, but it seems like extended stays would be longer than 7 nights since most of the rentals are for that length of time. Otherwise the last night of most people’s trips will be spent quarantining and you can’t really plan a flight not knowing what time your test will be back.

Hi there! Like many on here, trying to see if my upcoming trip (November) will be possible (so thank you to all for the helpful posts & comments!)

I have seen conflicting information on the St. Barth Commuter website returning testing on the return. The below is copied from their website and is dated as of October 1, 2020. It shows that when traveling from SBH - SXM, a test is not needed if you are only in transit at the airport.

Has anyone else seen this or found it to be true? I have emailed St. Barth Commuter to confirm, so happy to share what they respond with if helpful.

Please share their response, as this would be new since I left there on Friday. I did have to show my EHAS form, but not my covid results. We are returning in November also, and it would be great if I didn't have to retest again this time before leaving.

Confirmed that testing for the return trip (SBH - SXM) is not required if only using SXM for transit.

I emailed Winair and was told "You do not need a PCR test coming from st barths seeing that they are low risk" and I also emailed St. Barth Commuter to confirm their policy and they responded with the same language from their website: "NO rt-PCR required if you are travelling from St-Barths and you are IN TRANSIT in Juliana."

To triple confirm, I called SXM airport and asked to speak with someone regarding their COVID-19 policies. I was transferred to a very kind woman who confirmed that you only need the test when coming from the US and arriving in SXM (even if for transit), but it is not needed when coming from St. Barth to transit in SXM to board a plane for the United States.

I should have asked if this recently changed, or inquire as to why it was necessary for others before, but I honestly didn't think to. I will probably give a call back closer to my trip to confirm again.

Hope this helps and welcome any comments / experiences!!

Including the full list of requirements I received from St. Barth Commuter today via email, and noting that a Health Declaration Form is still required to board when going from SBH to SXM.
