SIX MONTHS AFTER MINA, NOTHING CHANGED AT THE NATURAL POOLS OF PETIT-CUL-DE-SAC

1. What is the "Siphon" ?

I think this is what the article is referring to. A speleological term.

People actually jump into that with THAT taking place ?
That seems to be a third pool people do not usually go into... but when the seas are high or rough you can get pushed into that third area by the force of the waves. Pretty scary!

Fwiw I believe the COM has performed feasibility studies on numerous possibilities for physically filling or permanently blocking access to the passage, but all have been found wanting for one reason or another.

I thought you were some kind of "expert" on SBH. If you were, you would know that this is NOT where people jump in, it is near where people go to get into the pools. I will spare the details on this indescribably awful accident, they can be found elsewhere. Some of you should do a little Googling before you spout off your incredibly insensitive, ignorant, and tone-deaf comments.

It was a completely genuine question, I didn't intend to be insensitive. Do you feel better being such a nasty person ?

I'm actually quite a nice person, but I call it like I see it. If I offended anyone, I apologize, but I stand by what I said. And, judging by the PMs I received, I'm not the only one who felt that way from a few of the posts on this thread.

“Quite a nice person” understates the gentle, thoughtful person that is le_reve. Emotions attaching to discussion of the subject “. . . indescribably awful accident . . .,” moreover, will be a haunting island legacy of the Natural Pools for years to come. May the area forever be marked as a sacred space.

Yes. A very nice person indeed! I think this is a painful discussion for all who know what happened, and best not to prolong the pain publicly or otherwise. Please keep all those affected in our prayers💙

My advice is to unfollow or unlike this FB site due to their lack of common sense and sensitivity.

There is more than one siphon en route to these natural pools and I am a survivor of one: in 2020, without warning a rogue wave hit me, dragged me into the pool, and knocked me into the rocks. My experience as a skilled ocean lifeguard helped me to not panic and reach for safety after the third wave surge. After scalp stitches and a negative head CT, I'll never go back there.

I did see the warning sign at the beginning of the trail yesterday and totally understand, first hand, why the word, "death" is on this sign.
