Sayolita Cafe . . . a great find!

In St. Jean, next to its fun, namesake “surfer bar,” is a delightful little place for fresh, light, reasonably priced & tasty meals. There are a few stools at a couple of small counters, allowing an opportunity for eat-in dining, but it seems to be principally carry-out . . . which served me well after a late morning haircut at neighboring MG Studio. (“From a classic trim to a complete transformation, Guillaume is a master with his scissors to perfectly shape your beard, hair, and sideburns . . . with 30 years of experience to his credit.“ Wife Sandra serving women.)

A modest menu of simple, very fresh items prepared on the spot.

I had the chicken tacos (generously sized, 3 to the order) . . . which were awesome!

Proprietor Marie, ably assisted (on a nanny sick day) by 2 year old daughter “Charlie“ (a real sweetie, with icy blue eyes!), has a jewel of a St. Jean luncheon spot . . . highly recommended!

. . . at small traffic circle in front of Villa Creole, instead of going around toward Lorient, stay to the right — passing Le Piment & traveling up the hill about a quarter mile. You’ll see Sayolita bar on a corner . . . the café is next to it.

I hope that you get to meet “Charlie,” the very sweet little girl! (She captured my heart as she walked from behind the counter & very shyly asked my name (her mother translated for me). When I said “Dennis,” with a sweet smile she quietly said, “Bonjour, Denis!”). If only I were 70+ years younger!

Just one bar & one café. The bar seems not to be open during the day. The café has wine, & I think, beer.

Back in the day that location was a coffee shop, open all 7 days. When we would it was a 50/50 chance that it was open.

Ah, Laurent! Now with his partner, a longtime SBH hotelier, and located in Scotland. His on-time performance for opening time wasn’t great, but he surely did roast and grind some great cofffee!

So true . . . but who couldn’t like Laurent, whom I initially met when he was a host (at 16!) at Maya’s.
