PLEASE SUPPORT THE 29th ST BARTH FILM FESTIVAL

Founded in 1996, the St Barth Film Festival has become one of the major cultural events on the island. Dedicated to Caribbean Cinema, the festival screens up to a dozen films each year in late April to early May at the outdoor cinema at AJOE in Lorient, on the dock in Gustavia, at the Theatre du Paradis in Gustavia, and occasionally on the beach in Flamands. All of the films are in French, or have French sub-titles, so that they are accessible to the island audience. All screenings are free to the public in order to attract the largest audience possible and best promote Caribbean cinema.

Over the past 29 years, the festival has created one of the few existing crossroads for Caribbean filmmakers to meet with their colleagues from Europe and the United States and share ideas about filmmaking, as well as hold post-film discussions with the public. This unique forum appeals to filmmakers who do not often have the opportunity to meet and discuss their work in an informal festival setting such as St. Barth. These inter-cultural exchanges are meaningful to the participants and the audience.

We have also developed an annual film-in-the-schools program. In addition to showing films, we are dedicated to taking film professionals to speak with students in the island schools. Last year we co-hosted a Cuban music and dance program in the schools as well.

The St. Barth Film Festival receives support from the local government of St. Barthélemy as well as the regional bureau of the French Ministry of Culture (DAC Guadeloupe), and various hotels, restaurants, and businesses on the island. But we need private donations to balance our modest budget.

All of the people involved in the organization of the St. Barth Film Festival are volunteers, and come from as far away as the US, France, Guadeloupe, and other Caribbean islands to make the festival possible. Your help will support their efforts. Be an Angel, a Patron, a Producer, or a Friend and be part of the cultural life of St. Barth!

Always a worthy cause & fun event!

Ditto to Dennis' comment, always fun. A chance to see films you'll almost never see stateside, in a great outdoor setting, and meet the people who make them. Alas, after a dozen or more years (we've lost count) we will not be on island for this years event. But we're already looking forward to the 30th anniversary. Please support this great event and attend if you're on island.
