Rockefeller Estate Visit

After we enjoyed our swim at Colombier, we decided to do some more exploring. My 1st time checking out the old Estate. Must have been some grand times spent there in the past.

Great coverage of the former Rockefeller estate. Saw it from a sunset sail last trip. Sad to see it aging.

You were remarkably close to the house -- great pictures! I understand that the property (grounds and house) is "protected" by motion detectors which alert a guard service when movement is detected. Re: "grand times" . . . a little bit about life there was written by one of David's daughters in a book that she did about growing up with such a famous father. According to her accounts, life at the house on SBH was very simple. She and siblings had many chores assigned by their mother, swam, played, sailed, read books, and went to bed early each evening. She also recalled that her parents didn't entertain very much on St. Barths . . . making it a family time that she remembered very fondly.

Hi Dennis,

Who could not have a great childhood surrounded by magnificent beauty. Ahhh, family time, that is what life is all about.
Matt and I walked around all the buildings. If there were motion sensors I am sure we set them off. We did not see anyone. It is a pity, as we did see some vandalism.

Sad to see that vandalism took place. I also saw an expansion in graffiti markings-albeit on walls, fences, buildings or construction sites. This disfiguring practice should be squashed before it gets out of hand and becomes rampant.

Mayor Giuliani did a great job in NY to end the practice and the city is that much prettier because of his war on graffiti.

We have also walked through the ruins and did not see any evidence of motion detectors or guards. Must have been a grand time when it was in full 'swing.'

Can someone refresh my memory who owns this property now and why it sits for decay on this perfect location? We go to the beach every trip and just look at it wondering why it's not built back up. This was my athletic daughter in 2014 when we took our 19 and 24 year old kids to see our favorite island.

Thanks Dadto6 and Scotth for the photos. I have seen the estate only from an excursion boat or a plane, so these photos add dimension. Thanks for posting!
