Friends & highly-regarded former island restaurateurs, Emanuel (“Manu” to many) and partner Marisol, famously of Santa Fe Restaurant
. . . very kindly invited me to lunch last week at the home where they’re staying above Grand Cul de Sac.
Manu clearly hasn’t lost his culinary skills as he & Marisol served exquisitely prepared fresh cod with mango & vegetables — such a light & refreshing September afternoon meal
Dessert was Manu’s “signature” poached pear, filled with vanilla ice cream & drizzled in warm dark chocolate.
What a beautiful & relaxed afternoon reunion it was as our friends excitedly described that they, having recently sold their wildly successful restaurant in France, are contemplating a return to St. Barths. In this regard, they are in competition to become the Collectivité’s new lessee / operator of the airport restaurant & bar (tentatively scheduled for a December 1 re-opening), with respect to which quite extensive renovations have commenced . . . relocating the bar to be in front of the kitchen, for example, with materially-enlarged & newly-decorated lounge & dining spaces — including new, larger windows facing onto the runway. (Hours will be 7-to-7 . . . seven days/week.) Viewing renderings of the new space, I predict that it will become a sought-after “destination“ venue for island locals & visitors.
