Restaurant update

I understand that the Joel Robuchon group has withdrawn from its plan to open on SBH. The nearly completed venue, thus, on the Gustavia quay, awaits a new tenant,

In somewhat the same vein, I’m told that the Villa Marie plan to open a St. Jean outpost restaurant on the beach next to Nikki Beach was scuttled by the Collectivié. Insufficient parking.

I remember Murrow, lol.

I’m torn on the Robuchon group’s decision to drop their plans for a Gustavia restaurant. I’ve very much enjoyed the times when I’ve dined at their Las Vegas outpost. On the other hand, my credit card has always been quite “melty” afterwards. The food and the experience has been better than I’ve ever experienced on St Barth, but with an equally elevated price.

Glad to see the collectivity is considering the parking situation. (and is there a need for another beach restaurant?)

Where was/is the "not now" Robuchon venue?

The Robuchon site is where Amy describes it. It has been a private parking lot for the past few years.

We were in Paris last August when Robuchon died. We were staying in a flat just up the road from the Atelier. I recall going by it in the morning and there were piles of flowers laid in front which had me puzzled. The restaurant was dark. Read later that day that he had passed. That evening, my wife and I walked by and we saw a bunch of people who were clearly dressed up for dinner staring into the glass doors looking at the still dark restaurant. They hadn't heard of the chef's death and had shown up for their reservations.

On a happier side, we have memories of sitting at the counter the first time several years before. When my wife had her first taste of the famed Robuchon potatoes, she said it was one of the best things she had ever tasted. She asked the chef at the counter how much butter had gone into the potatoes. Without missing a beat, he replied "Madame, they are made with love." Quite a bit of love went into the potatoes.

Understanding Joel passed away about 15 months ago and the Paris restaurant/s closed as well as others such as Singapore, it surprised us that this one wasn’t announced much earlier?
