"He" would be Georges "JoJo" Berry, a Saint Barth native who ran the eponymous supermarket until it closed to make way for the new building and Monoprix... Not sure he actually runs the burger joint on a day-to-day basis, I think he rents it out even though it bears his name... interestingly it's next to the cemetery where French rocker Johnny Hallyday is buried and his nickname was also JoJo (as noted previously on the forum) so a lot of the visitors from France who come to pay homage to their idol think the burger joint was named after him!

The “run” of Jojo’s is pretty amazing! When Jojo started it (I can hardly remember when it wasn’t there), I know that he intended a local, inexpensive, hangout for “locals” & people coming off the beach (at the time, mostly young, local surfers). It was a “hit” from Day 1 — not always “packed,” but very much like a Club of “the usual suspects.” I wax nostalgically about it because, as I say . . . I can’t remember a time without Jojo or Jojo’s. As recollections are told of SBH, it’s indelible in my mind.

Mi Brasa . . . reportedly sold by Bar de L’Oubli’s Nik Nemegyei (not someone I know well, but always a gentleman when we meet). A “corporate” buyer, I’m told.

Villa comfort at dinner . . . again, repeating myself (merci etx!) — not to be overlooked, lasting memories that surpass even SBH’S alternative great dining venues.

On my first trip to SBH we stoped at Jojo's and I recall it was a little green shack with a fold down panel at the front which served as the counter when they were open. Is my memory correct?

Absolutely! and not hugely different today!

Thanks. My French teacher's family were big fans of Johnny, so we always stop to pay respects after a JoJo visit.

When we went to St. Barts a few years back, we ended up at this little spot that had the best restaurant near me vibe, super casual but the food was amazing and the service was so friendly. We grabbed lunch there after a morning on the beach, just sat outside and watched people go by. The fish was fresh and simple, nothing fancy, but really hit the spot.

I always found that a lunch res at Zion was even harder to get than Sunday afternoon at Nikki, , literally impossible.

I truly enjoyed Jean-Baptiste's breakfast at Zion, it was most delicious of the 3-meals per day that he served. The Venison and Ostrich Egg was memorable and very filling!
