Restaurant Pricing???

It's our 10th trip to the island and noticing that pricing in restaurants has really jumped for some things... mostly noticing desserts and chicken prices have jumped. Was at Tamarin and a whole chicken was 150 Euro and have seen the same or similar pricing in other restaurants. Why so pricey?

Where else, for example, did you find 150€ whole chickens ?

225 euros for a roti chicken at petite plage restaurant in gustavia. its called whatever the market will bear.

I was exercising with a friend one morning and we stopped to check out their menu and my friend said who in their right mind would pay this amount for a roti chicken. super u is 8.50 euros for a roti chicken.....so I guess the only explanation for the why is, its only vacation dollars or they forgot to check the pricing on the menu. p.t barnum's customer's for sure.

I don’t seem to find it on current menu.
Whole poulet doesn’t seem to be on Tamarin’s online menu either.
🤷‍♂️
when I saw the menu for the roti chicken at petite plage, it was over a year ago. they perhaps have changed their menu since then, once I see something that is so overpriced, I don't normally check again. I used to go to petite plage when it first opened,I liked the sand under my feet when we were nowhere near a beach....and my friends liked their drinks. I now stick with eddy's, le repaire & a couple of other local places where the food is good and the prices are within reason.

Tamarin whole chicken for 150 euro was one of their specials for the night. I believe I saw it on at least three different menus for 90 euro to 150 euro. I'm going to take Didier's advice and stick to the more local spots next time and cook at my villa. The view from our villa was so amazing this time we really didn't want to leave it!

For me, would have to know details of special, but their dishes à partager are exceptionnels in my experience and worth the usual 70-75€/person.

I highly recommend it. A roast chicken and a few sides from the grocery, a half-bottle of wine leftover from last night (hah, like that ever happens), and a Tarte Citron from the bakery all combine to make a great lunch. And oh, that view!

To change the subject ever so slightly, does anyone remember a chicken dish at Cat Cent-era Tamarin in the '90s that was, perhaps, BBQ, but sticky and sweet? Was long my favorite SBH meal and wish I could recall the details.

But for the privilege of spending an extra 216.50 euros, you do get beach sand with indoor air‑con and a teary‑eyed sparkler show while you enjoy your chicken dinner.

Plus music so loud your ears will ring for days.

A real win‑win, all for a bling‑bling one‑minute Instagram or TikTok story.

I get the impression that the noble fowl is being besmirched in this thread.
Beautifully prepared and presented whole poulet for deux (not your grocery store variety) historically figure among French 3-star restaurants most iconic dishes.
