Not a great deal to report today. A rather lazy, laid back day.

After lunch we drove to the opposite end of the island, parked our car by la chapelle Sainte Catherinne de Sienne, and strolled Merlette and Flamands. Tried to speak Flemish with passers-by but they looked at me strangely. Don't know why we ignore this quartier of the island as it is très beau. Stopped to nose around le Taiwana a bit. Photos I have seen don't do it justice. It is very chic and seductively beautiful. I think if Mme Cassidain and I were among "le people", le Taiwana might be where we'd stay. Strange, but the only posts I recall recently about the restaurant are Kevin's. Might make it our farewell luncheon.

Met ElleMond à l'heure d'apéritif at the new Gustav. Wonderful to see them briefly before they scurried across the street to catch a performance in the Festival de Musique series. Our sweet little serveuse was so eager to demonstrate ses compétences en anglais that in lieu of our "deux Americanos" ordered she presented us deux cafés américains. Oh well...

Caught a pocketbook friendly dinner at the newly reopened Le Piment. Good petites bouchées conviviales of assiette de charcuterie, croustillant de chèvre frais, les clams, et les calamars en persillade. Bon. Petit bémol, serveuse asked if we wanted to leave les tips on the cc. Arrh.

That's a beautiful lunch view. "Au bord de la piscine" is a location where more of us should choose to dine.

"au bord de la piscine" translates to "at the pool", or "by the pool". It's a great location for lunch, with that million dollar view that you're renting for big bucks, a roast chicken or the daily special and some side dishes from Rôtisserie or Petite Colombe, cheeses and other treats from the grocery, that half-bottle of wine left over from yesterday (yeah, right!), and something decadent from the bakery for dessert.

I am enjoying your posts and pictures as well. Getting to brush up on my French in prep for our upcoming trip and getting inspiration from your energetic treks around the island. Doubting it will rub off on us though. More than likely we will DRIVE to Flamands and I'll think to myself, how cool that they walked this :tongue:

We WILL do the "walk" to Colombier this trip I think. Missed it the past few trips.

We are ignorant. What does 'chapelle Sainte Catherinne de Sienne, and strolled Merlette' mean- where is this? We know Taiwana and Flemands and Gustav. Is the Gustav reopened? Where is the picture taken of the meal? Is it a private villa or a place one can take a lunch?

A small church on the road towards Colombier. Merlette is an area near Flamands. Gustav is a new reincarnation of a restaurant in Gustavia. The Carl Gustaf is closed forever. The meal was by the poster's swimming pool.

I should perhaps let Cassidain answer for himself, but he is on vacation after all. I hope that he doesn't mind that I presume to answer your questions.

The Chapel of St Catherine of Sienna is the small Catholic Chapel near La Petite Colombe in Colombier. I've never been inside, but I would love to check it out.

Merlette is a neighborhood between the section of Colombier where La Petite Colombe (and la chapelle Sainte Catherinne de Sienne) are located, and Flamands. The road to Flamands travels through Merlette. There are actually 40 "quarters" on St Barth, many of which are unknown (by name) to visitors. Les Cassidains probably traversed through a portion of Terre Neuve also.

Les Cassidains are quite the hikers. I take his comments to mean that they parked near the chapel, and that they hiked down along the road through Merlette, and through sections of Flamands, including the Hotel Taïwana. The hike back up the hill to their parking place was likely sufficient to burn off any dessert offered by Le Taïwana or La Case de l'Îsle.

The Carl Gustaf has not reopened, and is unlikely to. The name Gustav' is being used by the former La Route Des Boucaniers in Gustavia, which is said to be thrashing for both an identity and profitability.

The first model of the manufacturer Wallyscar, the Wallyscar Izis is, since the 19th October 2008, in so-called CKD assembly assembled. The Izis is available per request without doors or two open-door mini SUV, in the style of the Italian Lawil and the Swiss Diavolino . Responsible for the design was the Tunisian design company hh design . The vehicle was named after the Wallis and Futuna island in the Pacific Ocean .
The only available engine for the Izis is a gasoline engine, a PSA Group TU3A. With inline four cylinders, a displacement of 1360 cc and two valves per cylinder power, this engine produces 55.2 kW. The turning radius is 9.2 meters. From the factory, the Izis is available in over 100 finishes, with the possibility for customers to choose between a range of different accessories such as various steering wheels, interior trim and built-in appliances.
