Covid-19 - Noticeable drop in the number of cases in Saint-Barth

After a month of July marked by a spectacular increase in the number of Covid-19 cases, Saint-Barthélemy seems to be heading towards a gradual decrease. Indeed, according to the weekly health bulletin of the Regional Health Agency unveiled this Thursday, between August 9 and 15, 67 positive diagnoses were identified. The previous week, Saint-Barth had 89.

Nevertheless, the situation remains worrying with three patients still hospitalized at the De Bruyn center and 25 at Louis-Constant-Fleming in Saint-Martin. The neighboring island recorded 251 new cases of Covid (including two additional deaths) last week and already has 79 since Monday. At the same time, in Saint-Barth, 18 positive tests were counted by the ARS in three days.

Due to the gradual improvement in the situation in Saint-Barth, the prefecture is considering relaxing the restrictive measures currently in force. Including the curfew schedule, which could be extended as early as tomorrow evening. The prefect, Serge Gouteyron, is expected to communicate on the subject in the afternoon of Thursday, August 19.

FYI...as we left the island earlier today, our villa concierge said there were rumors of a lockdown to further slow the spread. I know several of the beach clubs were closed (Gyp Sea being one) recently.

I remember when we were freaking about about 6 cases on the island at the end of the lock down. Hard to believe that 67 one week and 79 another week are reasons to relax restrictive measures. Shaking my head regarding how things were allowed to get so bad there after the initial vigilance at the beginning of Covid where we felt so safe being on the island and didn't mind check points, limited numbers allowed in grocery stores, take away food being a treat and mask wearing enforced.

probably best for everyone to stay away.

Probably right Cass but after keeping a home on the island for 6-8 months a year I would prefer to use it and not have my life altered by folks not seemingly taking proper care with covid safety which would seem to be the reason why the island is experiencing these high numbers. If you have any other explanation I would love you to help me understand.

Common sense. Thanks for posting
