Hoping for some insider help here. Short of actually venturing into Gustavia to their shop, is there a secret to getting one’s hands on some Glace ala Vanille in one of the local marché? The store freezers seem to be stripped of it on every trip over the last few years. We’ve tried the alternatives, and not to yuck anyone’s yum, it’s just not our preference. I know I could likely solve all this with a 20 minute round trip, but I have a hard rationalizing the time away from the beach/pool/family just for some ice cream. Does the Vanilla only hit shelves on certain days and times? On island for another week, so if someone has cracked the code, please let me know. Merci in advance!

Such a rare query. Good luck! . . . I suspect that the trip to Gustavia is your answer.

This is summer and Gustavia is very quiet. No headache for finding a place for your car. Go and visit Gustavia shop, buy buckets of vanilla ice cream, grab a coffee at bar de l Oubli, and dive with tarpons in the harbour to freshen up 😉.
it will make your day, for sure.

I don't see any problem swimming in the Harbour with Tarpons.. ;)

Thank you all for the advice. Made the trip in to Gustavia this morning, but alas, they do not have any “dairy-based” flavors at the moment (no chocolate and no vanilla 😢). While in town we walked up to La Creperie so as not to make the ride a total bust. After we had our cones we hustled back to Lorient with a couple of scoops of vanilla in cups, which turned halfway to soup in transit…hopefully a couple hours in the freezer will help.

Such a cutie!

2026 Update - arrived earlier today and took an evening trip to the Super U, not realizing it was closed. We made our way back to Lorient and stopped into the Oasis U, and lo and behold, 5 pints of Glacé ala Vanille in the the freezer case. I was feeling generous so I only procured 3…willing to entertain high value trades 🤣

Glad you found it! I was going to say Super U - I must be lucky because I don't usually have trouble finding it. Their chocolate is really good, too.
