Le Pelican, the predecessor to Nikki Beach, is perhaps why that side of St Jean is still called Pelican Beach by some. There was another old-time beach club nearby, I think closer to Eden Rock, which burned down in the 80’s. My memory is a bit foggy on details from that far back, but it might have been called St Barth Beach Club.

Close. That was the St Barth Beach Hotel.

We dined at that version of Le Rivage often, especially after we discovered that Salade Pilou could be ordered in a Demi size.

Our most memorable meal there was a Thanksgiving-week dinner in the months after Hurricane Luis devastated the island. With their restaurant destroyed and being rebuilt, Michel and Therese Ledee, owners of Marigot Bay Club, were able to join us and decompress a bit. I have photos from Alain Photo (Buisson) of that night.

Such an especially warm memory, Kevin. I recall the great kindness of you & Kate in visiting the island so soon after Luis . . . and generously spreading cheer & Euros to help in restoring a degree of normalcy. (Evenings with Michel at the Marigot Bay Club particularly bring a smile to my face!)

I remember working out at this gym...and mostly locals...between sets, I would go out on a little balcony...and look out onto the beach and island...I would think...This is just the most beautiful place in the world...probably 25 years ago...God...I should have bought a few villas on the island when I had the chance...at least I was able with my family to enjoy the magic of the island since 1990 about 25 times on annual visits before all the sloppy money changed things...Gratitude...Anyone around remember the Lafayette Club?

I sure do. A big bill but a unique lunchtime dining experience worth every Penny. Loved the table on the water by the palm tree. Pinch me…a tropical dream come true
