Have hit the point where I don’t remember with clarity the number of days we have been here or even what day it is. Time seems to be marked by the restaurants visited. Beach landing on arrival – just not the same. Winair agent said they have cut back to 5 flights a day. Island seems a little quieter.
Weather has been different; hotter than normal the beginning of the week. There has been considerable cloudiness but in general enough sun to still work on the tans. It has rained almost every night and even a few sprinkles this morning.
Restaurant experiences:
Andy’s – the usual good goat cheese salad and pizza
Wall house – really a disappointment. Did the “menu” which historically has been great and a great value. Did it this time and it was good but the portions should have been an embarrassment to serve, they were so small. It was only 29Euros but in my opinion, they would be better off raising the price and serving something where customers could actually get enough to eat.
88 – Forget this place. Good place to stop for a drink but the dinner was mediocre at best and parts of it were just downright bad.
Strand – the meal was quite good but the place was quiet. The DJ started at 10:30 with about a dozen people in the place. We did have thunderstorms and heavy rain during the evening so that may have been a factor.
Bonito’s – a truly memorable meal. This is a great place and quite elegant. Had the ceviche sampler and it was fantastic, followed by sea bass for the wife and mahi for me. Strange little thing though was, despite being a really nice place, no bread plate and no butter served. A little thing and we would/may definitely go back.
Went to Le Ti after Bonito (last night, Saturday) – we got there about 10:30. The place was packed; couldn’t hardly move or get a drink. Waitress got upset because we sat at one of the few empty tables that was “for dinner.” There was a large party that occupied the entire main room. I have had fun at this place at times and other times not. This was one of the other times. It has always been a rip-off but the fun made it worth it. It has gotten ridiculous. A Carib was 10Euros and my wife’s vodka and tonic was 14. I expect to be gouged at a place like that but I think that is over the top. We were going to go again but I have scratched it off the list.
Upcoming – Nikki Beach for lunch today, Victoria’s, Pipiri Palace, K’fe Massai, Eddy’s, and others. A Little over a week to go (I think).
Misc.: Like the Marche U better than the Match. Rented a Jimny soft top (our tradition) from Toploc for the first time. Now, I generally prefer a somewhat “worn” rental here for reasons most of you understand. This car is over the top. To say that it is a POS is not to do it justice. It goes but I don’t know if it will make the rest of the trip. This car is almost humorous. I can barely get up some of the hills and when it gets to the top it smells that like it going to burst into flames. It is the first time that I know the cost of our renting this exceeds the value of the car.
Starting to clear a bit so to the pool and then to lunch.
