Maya's Closing

We know Maya and Randy from 1998, so when we went to Hamptons in 99 or 2000s, we were so happy to find that they opened Maya's there (for short time, though) and of course, we visited their restaurant there, bringing a copy of their SBH menu with us. We even asked Maya to autograph it for us then and there. I forgot what town was their place in, but remember it was in the open space on the side of the main road. Anybody else visited Maya's in Hamptons?

Actually East Hampton, in the old Sapore di Mare location, I think Maya only lasted there one summer season. I went once but the trek from Manhattan took forever on a hot summer afternoon.. the ride back in a silver Boxster with my old friend Greg Beck who was game enough to go with me (his car), the top down was a glorious end to a fun evening of seeing Randy and Maya in a US location... same good food but it didn't work out for them...

conversely the owner of Sapore di Mare tried a restaurant in SBH at Les Castelets one year, 1992....

He'd be surprised how many restaurant entrepreneurs have planted their flags here now!

What year was it, Ellen? I cannot quite pinpoint it, 99 or 2000?

Wainscot? I do not know why that town popped 8nto my head just now.

This is the building where they were. saracen-scaled.jpg

We had dinner there last night. Dinner was great. Randy presented the dinner choices as if it was just another evening. Maya stopped by our table at the end of our dinner. You could see she was taking it all in her last 2 nights at one of the best restaurants on the island for so many years. What a great run they had. I think everyone will miss them and their wonderful food!

Indeed they will be missed. We remember the hand embroidered placemats from earlier days. They deserve to enjoy their life away from the fray of the stove.

Well, it was a great ending, although sad, but both Maya and Randy look happy and we are happy for them. :star:IMG_20210630_215241.jpg

It was also great to see so many familiar faces and meet people who we knew by name only. Thank you for sharing this wonderful moment, Phil, Amy, Ellen, Rosemond, Dennis, Dianna. Sorry if I missed anybody.

As Keith and Alyson noted A GREAT RUN. Now it is time for them to enjoy the fruits of their labors..You will be missed Maya and Randy. A lot. We wish you good health and happiness as you soon will have the chance to experience St Barths full time!
