Mamo . . . extraordinary!

It is nice to have 2 great restaurants, especially since the fancy ones seem to keep closing, as much as I love French food #1. I'm still sad about Le Sapotillier, but this looks like a worthy replacement. Very pretty and the food really does look great!

Stunning,mGina, in every respect!

Denise had two Almond Croissants in the toaster oven for me this morning From Trader Joes in Hyannis. Very good and looking forward to our upcoming visit.
I have eaten an almond croissant nearly every morning for about 48+ or so years! Perhaps Denise and I could be ”Almond Croissant Buddies”! ( All are welcome to join my Club! One thing San Diego does right are croissants..some excellent French bakeries by real French people😋😋😋.). Maybe we should start a “Show me your Croissant” thread…🤔😂

We have a nice French bakery in the sleepy little Town of Clifton in Virginia named Motier. Run by a nice French couple, their croissants are wonderful.

Long post ahead!

We dined at Mamo last night for my husband's birthday - he chose it mainly because of the delicious-looking photos that Dennis posted a few weeks ago, so off we went! Making a reservation was a little difficult, they do not post a phone number anywhere on their social media pages, and their website seems to be not working at the moment. So, email seems to be the way to go, but I did not hear back from them for a few days regarding our request. Finally, we got a confirmation a few hours before we were set to go.

As Dennis mentioned, the space is absolutely breathtakingly beautiful and it seems that no expense was spared in the relatively quick renovation that was done to the old restaurant. Our reservation was for opening time at 7:00PM, so when we arrived, there were only a few people in the inside. This quickly changed and it was packed by the time we left.

There seemed to be a mix of obvious tourists, a few local people that I recognized but do not know, and of course some of the beautiful people dressed to the nines. One couple brought their full-sized white poodle (Cosmo) into the restaurant with them, who was so was amazingly well behaved and how he fit under the table to snooze during dinner, I will never know - he was a very BIG dog.

The service was very friendly and prompt without being overbearing or intrusive, which I appreciate! There was a Sucker Board, but I noticed the total price of each item was clearly marked and there was no "add on" pricing or other confusing nonsense. The wine list is very nice, and overall expensive, but thanks to Dennis, we ordered the same wine that he did which was quite reasonable. They were out of it, but the server recommended another similar wine that was only 10€ more and was very good.

I had the Octopus Salad as a starter, my husband had the Artichoke Salad. I had the Veal Picatta for my entree, Mr Reve had the Rigatoni with Meatballs and Sausage. All dishes were delicious, especially Mr Reve's red sauce - it was very bright and fresh tasting. My veal was delicious, although I could have used more lemon in the sauce as I love lemon! We shared a dessert - our waiter recommended it and I can't remember what it was, but it had chocolate, a white marshmallow type center with peanuts - kind of reminded me of a Snickers bar!

Overall, it was great and for what we ordered with wine and cocktails, two starters, two entrees and dessert, the price was not outrageous (for SBH) - we were NOT solicited for a tip, although we did leave one in cash. A pleasant experience and food is on par with L'Isola. I would definitely go back for a special occasion or with a group of friends.

One funny story: The space is small, so two top tables are lined up against the wall with a long banquette on one side, and a chair on the other side of the tables. They are quite close together. At one point, the only table in the restaurant that was open was next to us on one side. A very "fan-cee" (or so they thought) couple came in and when the woman saw her table, she instantly decided that it was not good enough for her and demanded another table, which of course, they did not have. There were a lot of hand gestures and raised voices from the woman and eventually she stormed out with her obviously embarrassed husband behind her. I have a feeling they did not end up having a burger at Select as their backup plan. LOL!

Oh, and one last thing - I did notice that the prices on the current menu were much more than the one that was posted here awhile ago. The Veal Marsala dish was about 20€ more than what was on the previous menu. I don't know if all the prices are more, but that one definitely stood out to me.

We dined at Mamo in early December. Everything was perfect from start to finish. The restaurant is gorgeous, the staff was wonderful, the food was wonderful, and there wasn’t any upselling or tip pressure!

I have received several post-dining emails from Mamo with their reservation booking portal. It is at the link below. However, I just tried to book for late May and availability is only shown for the next few weeks. Hmm…

First time at Mamo tonight.
Seated at the bar.
Beautiful space.
Well-heeled clientele.
Excellent bartendress (Savanne) (from Paris)
High-end Italian, but different from L’Isola.
Will be back.
I'll be eager to hear your further assessment of Mamo, Cass. In my visits there, I tried to parse its food vs. that of L'Isola. Mamo food was described to me as being influenced by Provence . . . whereas in visits to L'Isola, I've been told that it represents a style of cuisine that is "Roman."

The service window to the kitchen is open to the entry/bar area, and I saw quite a number of Margarita pizzas going out.
They looked very good :)
